SLAMMING OR NOT??

I wouldn't buy that old stuff now, as the others say, go with an I5 or Phenom II ...and FS9 wasn't designed during any C2D period, it was 2003 that the game was released, that was toward the end of the Athlon XP and socket A's reign and a bit before the Athlon 64 came out ...all during the time of the Pentium 4 for Intel.

I have some real 'period' technology you can give me hundreds of pounds for if you like :D

Note to Moderators: I was joking, not trying to solicit a sale through a none members market part of the forum.

As you can see from my sig the P5Q pro mobo is a great overclocker with the E8600 and if you check some tech forums you can find some great BIOS flash for the P5Q boards.
Personally for the price you might as well go for the E8400 if you insist on buying core 2 duo's.

Bizarre. The e8600 has got nothing on the new chips. Any code optimised for the c2d will be optimised for the newer systems, features have been added to the processors not removed. The only way you can argue in favor of the e8600 is if it can clock higher than the i7. From my experience so far, realistically it can't. Especially given you can turn off two of the cores on the i7 if you want.

Dont feel like blowing another i7 :S
From the linked thread. You are vanishingly unlikely to have killed an i7 processor. To kill one, reject a second then downgrade considerably is just not going to happen.

You never posted screenshots on the overclocking thread, just said you were going for 4.2ghz and wanted to get a daft cooler. Indeed you abandoned it completely.
