Sleep problems

Dude, you're sleeping around 10 hours which is too much, and you're not going to bed until 2am, waking up at 12am or later, that is your problem. It's not good. Stop looking for causes elsewhere without sorting this out first.

I understand what you're saying but I try to sleep much earlier but I end up just tossing and turning and it's only around 2am - 3am when I actually fall asleep. Last night I went to bed straight after 8 out of 10 cats - 10:30, and I just couldn't fall asleep.

Coming to think of it, the only time when I've felt refreshed and woke up early is when I've been drinking the night before. Maybe it's more a case of not having a deep enough sleep?

I said I wouldn't but I can't help myself :(

Your choices are :

1. Make an appointment to see your GP next week. His/Her clinical knowledge, expertise and experience will either tell you that (a) things medically are fine but you need to work on how you sleep or (b) you have something that needs to be addressed, or ...

2. You wait for someone on a computer forum to tell you that they also don't sleep too well and that it's fine.

Seriously, what do you not get about this? Get off the internet and speak to a bloody doctor, man!

I've found keeping the curtains open does the trick. In the summer months you'll be waking a fair bit earlier, but get out and do things during the day.

Over the past few months I've been digging out my old patio and garden and been laying a new one, have to get up early most days to start working as I think theres no point starting work later as you've wasted the day. I started forcing myself to get up via alarm at like 8am, but then as time went on i was beginning to get in the swing on things and was waking up naturally before 8am, its also made easier by the fact that it is quite laborious and tiring to do so helps me sleep better at night.

Used to go to bed at like 2am when i was uni at least but now im in bed for like 11pm most nights lol!

Start setting your alarm for six, that way you'll be very tired when it gets late the next day and will need to get to sleep earlier. After a while you'll get into the pattern of going to sleep earlier, then you can get up at a more normal time, and still go to sleep early.

Avoid watching TV in bed, it tends to keep you focused, so you stay up. When you're in bed, don't think that you won't get to sleep, or thinking about stressful things, just let yourself drift off.

I know but I can't just go straight to a doc right now. :p

I'm having the exact same problem, can't get to sleep before 2am, don't wake up to 12 next day and when I do I feel tired and worn out, Thursday night I just lay there until around 6am before I nodded off, had to get up at 10 as I had a bus to catch.

Last night took an Melatonin 5mg tablet and went right off to sleep about 11:30, woke up about 10:30 which is at least a little better, didn't feel tired either.

This is what you need :D

Basically everytime you press snooze it gets a little bit higher, until your forced to get out of bed to turn it off.

that'll get you up

How much caffeine is in CocaCola?

Enough to cause this sort of problem?

I drink, on average, 3-4 cans a day.

i had same with drinking to much coffee, awake till gone 1/2am and then sleep till afternoon, after a caffine free couple of weeks i felt so much better not just in sleep but mentally/ physically just generally all round, might be an idea to give it ago.
also like a few have said get less sleep, i feel better with 6 hours than i do with 8/9/10 hours.

Exercise, if that does work then try Temazepan. Mate said he slept like a log
If you are going to try the medication route, I wouldn't start with a bezodiazepine like Temazepam, although it is a useful option if the common GP choices aren't successful.

Stilnox. Fantastic sleeping tablets, really powerful. With the added bonus of mild hallucinations (a common side effect).

:)

Stayed off the Cola all day yesterday, went for a jog late afternoon and then fishing at the river just before 9. Back at 10:30 and listened to the last half hour of Russell Brand on Radio 2.

Dozed off pretty quick and woke up at 6:30am.

Now that's a start. :)

Only problem is, despite waking up naturally, I'm starting to feel tired again already but hopefully if I keep the same sort of cycle up my body will get used to it.

You know all those over-the-counter medicines that say 'may cause drowsiness'? Take some of them. Anti-histimines are good.

I think most of you are missing the point? The OP says he sleeps fine but, however much sleep he gets, he is still tired when he wakes up.
