Sleeping aids

fap in warm milk in a bath, taking herbal supplements whilst reading a book in the dark then mire your mad gains.

I ditched the alarm clock beside my bed as the LEDs were bright.

Also been reading up about using your phone, laptop, tablet, LED TV etc and the blue light stopping you getting to sleep etc.

Was going to get a cheap 40w red halogen lamp and bulb and see if the red light therapy stuff was worth a bash.

Might be crap but worth looking into as I am

I'm going to avoid innuendo and give a serious reply.

The Mrs and I swear by camomile tea. I see a few other herbal suggestions above and either could work, it really depends on the person.

Camomile tea is proven to ease anxiety and relax you. We often swig a cup right before bed and find ourselves slipping into natural and lengthy sleep everytime. I urge you to try this for a week or so.

This, camomile flowers tea from teapigs is the best

I didn't get on with 5HTP.

For me, I've actually found it keeps me awake if I take it too late at night.
Taken a couple hours before seems to work a lot better.

Something I tried a couple years back was "Potter's Herbal Nodoff Mixture", Sainsburys sell it.
Tastes absolutely disgusting, but did seem to help.

Earplugs when I'm working nights and sleeping in the day.

And I MTFU and get on with it on a 12 hour day shift after only 2 hours sleep.

This is something I struggle with.

I always have a shower then stick a documentary on when I'm in bed. Something which interests me so that I'll focus. The laptop goes to sleep afterwards so there's no 'white light' to cause further disruption. Occasionally I'll drink camomile, too but I find a warm shower works better.

A consistent routine works best for me. I always go to bed at a similar time, and do the same thing - works an absolute treat.

From personal experience I would caution against any type of sleeping medication. I used a (very mild) prescription tablet which helped get me to sleep but made me feel quite 'blurry' during the day. However by far the worst aspect of medicaiton is the 'reliance' (rather than addiction) to it. I found myself stressing out when I only had one or two tablets left, worrying how I was going to sleep if I ran out, etc.

I had to just ditch them and re-learn how to get to sleep naturally after that, and it wasn't pleasant at all.

Many others have suggested excellent points too:
- dark room
- ensure all electronic items are switched off at plug (to remove any buzzing from transformers etc)
- comfy bed and pillow.

Get yourself down your local rough boozer, they'll sell all kinds of pharmaceuticals down there.

On second thoughts don't.

I spent last Sunday night checking on a guys breathing every 15 minutes as he'd taken a cocktail of crack and a shed load of heroin. Our resident doctor said as long as his respiration rate didn't go below 8 breaths per min, he'd be fine.

I often struggle to get to sleep.

My findings through trial and error:
- Don't lay in bed playing on phone. if you really must then turn down the screen brightness.
- Alcohol helps you get to sleep, but you will not sleep well. Avoid.
- Playing games etc. before bed is a terrible idea. A few rounds of Battlefield is the worst.
- Wind down before bed. You can't just come home from the gym and go right to sleep.
- Shower right before bed raises your temperature and makes you hot.
- Make sure the room is dark and quiet.

I have also found Youtube ASMR videos help during times when my mind just won't **** off and let me sleep.

He was fine.

He came back today and told me he couldn't remember Sunday. At all.
