Sleeping aids

I used to struggle to sleep and stay asleep for years. Now I have a hot bath an hour or so before bed, then meditate for 15 minutes before I fall asleep. Really sends me off and stops my mind wandering about stupid things I used to worry about.

Is that mean your routine to go to sleep is over an hour long?

What do you do when you are away from your home enviroment?

I'm rarely away from home!

I work from home, and also have a gym in my house to wind down when it's winter. It gives me a lot of extra hours a week not having to commute and I can wake up when I like if I've slept bad. No kids and recently split up with my long term GF. Strangely I'm sleeping better than ever as I have the bed all to myself :p

I always found exercise really helped me. I don't mean go for a run just before you go to bed, but increasing my general activity level meant that my body was actually ready to sleep.

Melatonin. You state you do not want medication, but it us purely a synthesized copy of your natural sleep hormone.

Seconded - very effective. Not the simplest to get hold of in the UK as it was banned for a while due to how it was made (think it was farmed from some sort of animal gland, but it's synthetic now). I bought a pack from a drug store in the US as a recommendation for helping jetlag and its marvelous stuff - both for overcoming an inability to get to sleep and for jetlag.
