Sleeping Dogs

Looking back on this game (completed a few days back), apart from think it was absolutely brilliant..one of my faves for some time... I think the only thing I didn't like about it was how it held your hand on pretty much every mission. Each person, location etc you had to 'do' was highlighted by markers.

Someone will probably tell me that you could turn them off now!...

I find the combat better than Batman's to be honest. It's a little less spammy and there are more moves to use. It's also bone crunchingly satisying (the leg breaks ) and the environment finishers are good fun.

:p

Honestly no idea how you can think that :p

I would say they're more or less the same when you have just standard enemies that don't block moves and batman's combat even less spammy when you encounter a variety of enemies i.e. the one's with a riot shield, taser, titans, armed thugs etc.

With sleeping dogs near the end, I just found myself waiting for them to make a move so I could counter as they just blocked every move of mine or if I got grabbed by the big guys, hit "kick" and then spam "right click" to get out of the hold.

There are more moves in Batman, with sleeping dogs, it was the same punch over and over again and the same kicks even when you change direction plus you only had like 4 strikes I think? And it would repeat over again where as with batman it was like 7 iirc? Plus you had the a whole range of gadgets to use and the best thing of all, multiple counter attack up to 3 people. Granted you had combo chain moves in sleeping dogs, but I very rarely used them as it was easier to just spam left click or counter or grab them and continue to punch them in the face. You also could use the environment in Batman, although not to the same extent as sleeping dogs and not quite as flexible either, you just had to be near the wall or banister etc. in order for Batman to use his finishing move i.e. throwing a guy into the wall or smashing his head onto the rail/banister etc. Another plus is the animations for the combat in batman, they looked great, granted not realistic :p but for sleeping dogs, it was just basic blocks, trip ups, kicks and punches etc.

Also had arm and leg break moves in Batman games, just not as satisfying sound to them :p

So i've just finished it (great way to get over a viral infection). I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the setting. Was wondering what game would really push my 7970 and this was the game to do that. And the women are so hot, Sandra you can get some anytime darling.

In the end it worked at £1/hr which i think is about right. Hope for some decent DLC.

The counter in Sleeping dogs can't just be button bashed like the Batman one, so you really have to time them. Sleeping Dogs also has enemies with weapons and strong enemies that mean you need to mix up your attacks. Once you unlock them from the dojo there are a good 10/12 different close combat moves, it adds a lot of variation. Batman's is far more arcade-y, it's about ridiculous combo's and practically teleporting across the arena taking stuff out. Sleeping Dog's is far more gritty and realistic and a bit deeper imo. Oh and it has a fish. A fish.

It was the same for batman as well, you hit it too earlier and you "stall" and get hit then, too late and you get hit and you also had to point in the right direction of the attacking opponent (using the WASD keys) and then combine that with up to 3 people attacking you (plus the prison guards were faster and stronger than your thugs, you also had people that had broken bottles and knives, which you couldn't just hit the counter button once, they had like a 3 strike move and for each yellow counter attack you had to hit the right mouse button and hold it, rinse and repeat for the 2 remaining strikes). You also had the special moves, which you would get after a certain amount of strikes i.e. weapon disarm, stun everyone around you with the bats, take down thugs on the ground with the bat claws etc.

Also don't forget that you could take a lot more damage in sleeping dogs regarding gun fire, in batman it only takes a couple of shots and you're pretty much dead.

It did, but no where to the same extent and plus there was only a couple of ways to deal with them in sleeping dogs and that was counter attack, jump over and the stun (although it seemed useless half the time combined with the majority of the other moves, they just blocked them all nearly all the time), where as in batman you had to use the jump over, stun (up to 3 times stun for the titans and armoured henchman), stun and jump over or if you wanted you could use any of the gadgets.

Indeed, I agree with you there, batman more arcadey whilst sleeping dogs more realistic, (it was fun watching batman do a somersault and then a kick move from like one side of the road to the other side :p) and I will give you that last point :p :D

EDIT:

And then in game+ mode it was even more satisfying and harder as you didn't have any guidance/counter markers :p

I just noticed something, now that I've driven around a bit. They drive on the correct side of the road. Is that a hangover from Hong Kong being run by the Brits?

Think i'm getting towards the end of the story, not really sure what to spend cash on :(

Theres nothing to buy really, the only thing I wanted to buy were a few cheaper items of clothing to give Wei the right look and a superbike.

Everything else I bought after that was to burn money.

Ok, loving the game but some of the continuation is a bit off shall we say...

Firstly, after a mission I can't remember now, I woke up in my swanky new apartment without any form of explanation as to how I acquired it.
I also found the boat apartment (not hard, it's on the map) and could use it freely despite still only officially 'owning' the original craphole flat.

Secondly, wtf is up with Tiffany cheating on me? I never knew we were an item in the first place. All I did was sing a couple of songs with her and relieve her of the gun and next thing I know, Wei's getting all jealous and **** while she's babbling on about Ping...

Amanda? (I think it's Amanda). Last time we met, I took a few pics, we had a kiss and now she's not even in my phonebook. She gone for good or what? I liked her :o

Don't read the spoilers if you're still early on in the game :)

Also, it's so much better with a pad

Yeah, even got to the point of buying a new bed in the game for the sake of it :D

It really confused me when I started playing. I went head-on in to traffic more than once!
I was all over the sodding place from start to finish in SD. Having been brought up via GTA I just couldn't get used to driving on the left side. I'm retaking my driving test soon folks! \o/

I must confess I am not too happy with the current crop of 'cheat mode' DLC's. I guess I can't blame them for taking advantage of players whilst the game is 'hot' but I sure hope some proper DLC is planned.

After having finished it a while back and had a chance to think about it, it still is my GOTY but could so easily have fallen into Mafia 2/RDR territory if Hong Kong wasn't as interactive as it is post game completion. SD excel's in quite a few areas but fell flat in a couple (i.e dating, taking that rapper bloke out on the town). If only they expanded a lot more on the dating/night on the town concept as well as injecting some humour into the game.

I found myself still playing the game over the weekend finishing drug busts and chasing handbag thiefs through alleyways. Also ended up beating up the Valet chap up quite a few times because all the llama seems to bring me are motorbikes!

We got them. We got them!
