There aren't any OTC or prescribed sleeping tablets that would kill you on their own, thankfully, unless i supposed you had a rare allergy to them. There used to be but they aren't prescribed anymore.
There are some anti-histamines that can be used as sleeping pills but not all sleeping tablets contain them.
Ummmm, zopiclone or zolpidem? and OTC, diphenhydramine? Overdoses can be lethal. a bit irresponisble to say they can't kill you.
Every OTC sleeping tablet I've seen contains dramamine/diphenhydramine as the active ingredient.
That's crazy!Irresponsible to take an overdose you mean? Zopiclone or diphenhydramine alone is extremely unlikely to kill you. Years ago, barbiturates were sometimes prescribed for insomnia. Now they were lethal, eg seconal. I believe overdoses of this saw the end of Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe.
Most, apart from herbal ones, do. I was talking about all sleeping tablets, prescribed or OTC, including benzodiazepines or hypnotics such as zopiclone, not just OTC.
Overdosing on ANYTHING can kill you, whether it be salt, water, or sugar, let alone diphenhydramine. How silly to say otherwise.

Yes, true, but he's unlikely to have posted saying "help me OcUK, I've just drunk a litre of water, what should I do?".
If you read through the thread, the comments were posted in response to a question of how many sleeping pills it would take to commit suicide. Someone who is wanting to take that method to end his/her life is hardly going to drink water or eat copious amounts of sugar or salt to end their life and be successful in their aim.
You and monkeypuzzled are missing my point, which is that it is very possible to kill yourself with over-the-counter sleeping tablets, and it's irresponsible to say otherwise.
