I have my i5 2500k @4.3ghz can't seem to go any higher, In BF3 i have on a 64 man server about 50-55% gpu usage all settings at max in game.

I just want to make sure I'm not going to wast my money by buying a i7 3770k, In other threads some of you have hinted that it is a CPU bottleneck but i just want to make sure i will be doing the right thing my buying this CPU

Was playing BF4 and sometimes my average GPU usage is 23% though both games do feel rather smooth.
When the battle ends in BF4 onto the score screen i can hear my cards fans pick right up in speed when i tab out my GPU usage shoots upto 99%:confused:

The 99% gpu usage on menus is because they aren't frame capped and being still image, your GPU is producing about 4000 fps and going into insanity.

I wouldn't have thought jumping from your CPU to a 37xx would give any real performance change. Your SB is clocked pretty nicely.

Key question is what resolution do you play at? SLI 770 might simply be overkill for it. I'd imagine it would be at 1080.

Whats your average CPU usage during the game, BF4 is pretty CPU intensive.

If your CPU is maxed out at 100% then your bottlenecking the cards and a 3770K will be a good upgrade.

hi nutsnut, my CPU usage is way 80-90%

MooMoo settings was a combination of ultra and high, but now i have it all set to high just to see what usage goes upto, but it does start to feel very laggy on ultra.

mcleish, If i have Vsync on will this induce input lag??

Make sure Vsync is on to limit to the screens refresh rate.

Vsync won't do anything on his 120Hz screen due to the low gpu usage.

@Ash,

No point changing cpu until BF4 proper performance is properly tested tbh, engine/driver improvents will come.

W8 is what you should be looking at if you plan on putting in lots of hours in regards to BF4 imo.

What sort of fps do you get? if you are getting constant high fps then whats the point in the upgrade?

My 7970 drops to 50-60% usage in skyrim due to vsync because it just does not need to work that hard.

I was more basing this on BF3 even though i do get high FPS it kind of annoys me that I'm not getting maximum usage out of my graphics cards.

FPS in BF3 around 100-180 but CPU always around the 80+%
FPS in BF4 well it's got better through the 3 updates 40-110ish

ive got a 3770K clocked to 4.2Ghz and im still not seeing more than 60% usage on each GPU, I am however hitting the VRAM ceiling but don't think it will make much difference tbh.

If I crank up the Sampling rate by the slider to 165% it uses the GPU's 99% each but even at 100% I still get drops in FPS to mid 40's sometimes.

I'm not sure whether it might be something server end?

You Don and need 120fps to enjoy 120hz. Set the game video settings to 120hz and fps to 60fps your display is still refreshing 120hz.

The benefit to having higher fps is less motion blur and input lag.

i believe BF3 is a very cpu incentive game and chances are BF4 is going to be the same. Upgrading your CPU is alway going to help though im not sure by how much.

but my question is, why 3770? why not go for Haswell instead?

He probably has a z77 board so a 3770k would go straight in.

I will let you know in a few days. Just bought a 3770k to upgrade from my 2500k at 4.3ghz.

I have sli 670's and gpu usage is really poor in the Battlefield beta in 64 player servers. everything i have read online (other than the "BUT TEH 2500K WILL BE FINE FOR GAMING FOR EVAR!!" crowd) shows significant gains with multiple GPU's in games like Battlefield.

The fact is, it doesn't get shown up with a single gpu as the cpu can push more frames than the gpu in most cases so the gpu is the limiting factor. Multi GPU's are a different story though.

I have dual 770 cards too and found only minimal difference in BF4 this evening but significant in BF3. That said, I know BF4 isn't optimised in the slightest so perhaps will change.

My 4770K averages about 60-70% load and GPU about 90% on BF4.

Well you see my i5 is 100% on all 4 cores whilst my 670's only average about 70% usage. Sometimes they go as low as 50% : /

Im hoping the 3770k will do the trick.
