slight stutter when turning in games (desperate)

its not the ram or voltages or overclock as i have tried it all but heh ill try again later for a laugh!

dr who can you tell me how to find out if my gfx and hdd share irq? i have tried turning off my pagefile with no difference though :(

start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system information.

Click on Hardware Resources > IRQs

This works in both vista and xp.

Do you play with a high sensitivity? I found in ID games on my logitech G5 revision 1 that if i had the sens high and dpi low, or the DPI setting high and sens low (this was worst) that if i moved the mouse to turn over a certain speed it would just "stop" as if i was moving it against the edge of the screen or something. My rev 2 g5 doesnt do it, and my rev 1 g5 on two other systems doesnt do it. So it must have been something else in the system causing it, but I had never noticed it until i got ET:QW, and then i realised i could replicate it in certain other games.

Was well annoying being shot in the back and not being able to instantly turn around to headshot them, as all id do is get stuck, and then panic and try franticly to move it even faster lol

so guys i duno where to look or wot to do now but im really fussy about gaming on my pc.100fps on windows xp with a proper defrag is amazing and i know the feel of it but recently i have been using 60fps with vsync and been pleased about smoothness.

now recently or i think it is recent as its been a long time and my memory sucks but i have been having horrible tearing or stutter when i move around in some games.

l4d is the big problem when i turn or move holding A or D and move the mouse u can see zoey and bill stutter while standing still, almost as if v sync was not on.the thing is im using vsync at have around 40-60 fps mostly around 55 which im starting to think is the problem?

tf2 is butter smooth compared to l4d and so is call of duty world at war although if i strafe around say a vehicle holding A and moving my mouse i can still detect slight abnormalies on the truck.almost like a very slight judder?

i have tried all settings and windows xp sp2 and vista sp3 + 4 formats and nothing has worked.latest drivers too and wot i consider a well kept system.xp is far smoother than vista in l4d but the problem still is visable.

im starting to suspect wot seems like a perfectly working razer habu mouse.

Sorry to bump this old post but did you ever get this judder issue resolved. If so how?
Thanks

I've had this problems for months, you name it i've tried replacing all components, monitors, mice, keyboards, formats, newest and older drivers.
It got worse recently also, really ****ing me off.

I've read that it can be interference from other components in the room, for example a subwoofer, could be a dodgy usb device or even a port.
Also check your wifi card, sound card etc.

The posibilities are endless, still yet to find the problem.
For me it did get better after i changed my pci-e slot but it has returned.
And just to note i've already RMA'd my mobo and received a different one back ><.

I've never had any kind of issues with this sort of thing. L4D and L4D2 both run really smoothly, I don't notice any kind of tearing or lag...

I'm kinda thinking its the cpu bottleneck too... either that or mixed IRQs. What kind of expansion cards have you got installed? If you're using wireless network, that can cause issues as its simply not as fast as wired.

Also, when you play L4D, are you playing a normal campaign, or a "single player" campaign? If you play it with the normal campaign, like "with friends" or something and not actually have anyone else in, then you may be getting server lag, as you're still connecting to their servers to play.

If that is the case, you could try changing the server type to local?

I'm suggesting this because if everything else has been tried, it might be that this is the cause...

He said half life aswell didnt he? Well either way you can tell the difference between lag and stutter.

And l4d is notoriously known for running bad anyway.

Hmm, thats true. I'd forgotten it wasn't just L4D.

Not sure its notoriously known for running badly.... Had a LAN party a while ago where we all used our own PCs of varying power. None of the 10 of us had any kind of trouble playing. Even the one running an old overheating P4 with an old radeon... admittedly it was running on low at 1024x768, but still ran fine.

A quick google and you will find hundreds of threads about the l4d stuttering.
Had it at one point myself, working in windowed mode and disabled multi core threading worked for me.

But now it back in the 2nd one for me

Well this issue is crazy. There are five of us in our click if you like with gaming PC's of various components and age. Four of us have this retarded mouse issue. FPS run fine if using just keyboard or gamepad. Move the mouse and yay judder. It's not mouse lag but image stutter caused when the mouse is moved. Vysnc on or off depending on game, triple buffering, upping poll rate all help but it is still there in every single fps for all 4 of us, but with varying degrees of severity. Then there is the other friend whos games are butter smooth. It's got to the point where changing hardware isn't an option any more because everything has been changed totally (in my case a complete new system). Dunno what causes it. Probably a software issue of sorts, maybe something to do with lcd technology. All i know is that it's driving me insane and despite months of google the only person i've seen mention this problem that seems similar to our issue is the author of the OP.

Pff i asked plenty of times here ;)
Really quite annoying, does it in video sometimes for me too but hard to say as im concluding this from preloaded youtube vids.
Does this on my gf's computer also.

Are you the dude from a while back with the stutter but it completely went away with a wired xbox controller? Still the same problems?

yup thats me. Still same problem for me and a few others. It's not fun any more:(

I must be lucky, played L4D and L4D2 and no issues, if your mates works fine you tried building same spec PC? lol, only joking, should be suitable for all, Im guessing there must be some sort of software/driver conflict

heres a bump for an old thread!

nope it never got resolved, most games are fine but source with multicore option is terrible imo, i have to turn it off and take the fps hit just for smooth gaming, and yes this is also present in l4d2.

in conclusion there is no fix apart from not using a mouse, i think its related to using multiple cores as this shows the most improvement in source games, i can also slightly see it in COD WAW but u need to contantly strafe turn and look at objects for a sort of shimmer/tearing judder which 80% of peeps wont notice.

i tried multiple pcs with ATI+NVIDIA nothing works so just give up and get used to it i think, its not software either so i guess we may leave this thread at that unless someone has actually found a fix! :)

I noticed that strafing judder on a few FPS's games. I put it down to not having enough FPS while doing that movement compared to how my eyes are seeing it. Even with 60fps, i figured itd go away if i had more, but i like vsync to avoid tearing. I noticed in Stormrise that it did it A LOT, but i put that down to shoddy console port coding and being a pants game.

Edit: Just to point out to other users, it is noticeable a different type of judder/stutter. Not like micro stutter, or lag, or fps drops. I can see it smoothly drawing the image but it kind of jumps. its weird. But meh, I dont get it unless im strafing right and turning left and staring at the end of a wall, and thats only in certain games.

yea mate i think u have to be picky about it to notice but i like my extreme smoothness, widows xp with l4d without multicore option and about 60fps+ ALL the time and its actually butter smooth like gaming in the old days before multicore.

and yea i notice this with 60fps, i use vsync so until decent 120HZ monitors comes so i can vsync at 120fps i dont think ill get to test it at around 100fps

Do you think it could be affect by field of view? Hence why you only notice it in certain games, andi only notice it in certain other games.

Know idea really, but I know for me, I notice it more in 3rd person games and as such i think its to do with how the camera moves. meh, just stabbing in the dark really lol.

I'd say its very specific on the game engine rather than FOV, although its always there.

The annoying thing is, it could be anything from components to the power from the wall.
Im upgrading soon so its its still there im gonna nerd rage Oo.

One good way to test for it that i've found is text, for example any MMO, when any of the text is above your head, it seems to vibrate?
