Slow drivers... ffs

They should be forced to retake their test if caught for: Driving Without due care and attention.

Yeah ok, it can be annoying if there's no opportunity to overtake, but I can't see how doing 20 in a 30 or 40 in a 60 constitutes driving without due care and attention

If they feel that they can't safely do more than that then it's quite the opposite.

The main drivers that annoy me are the ones that drive right up your arse in a 30 limit trying to do close to 40 and then it changes to 60 and they hang right back sticking to their previous speed...

Then when you go back into another 30mph limit they're straight up your arse looking annoyed again. The 40mph idiots!

It may be a limit and not a goal, but then theres taking the pee aswell lol, but saying that I got a minor on my car test for doing 30 in a 40 (i didnt know it was a 40 so i stuck to 30 to be safe :p)

40 mph drivers are the scourge of my commute every day.

My route to work is 20 miles of major A road with a town in the middle. The road itself is wide, pretty straight, good sight lines and good quality surface. Yet I still have to trundle along at 40 all the way, and then of course when it's dark on the way home we all have to go about 30!

A journey that I could do in about half an hour regularly takes me about an hour to do and drives me crazy!

I think it's just a case of doing what you're comfy with. I mean, I certainly *hate* it when people drive at 40 in a 60 with no good reason - it's completely inconsiderate for other road users. But at the same time, I would rather Mrs Slow did 40 safely than did 60 and crashed. The real question is whether Mrs Slow should have a driving licence at all!

If you're not capable of driving well, you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all... that woman Solari linked to, I was chuffed that she got a ban. I don't know if she's going to have to re-take her test though - I hope she does have to. She certainly needs to if she thinks 10mph in a 70 is OK.

The road out of Heath and Reach towards the A5 by any chance?
You live near there? I'm in Leighton Buzzard so I might know these roads. :D

My driving instructor told me to stay at the limit I think. My Mum hates drivers who insist on reading her rear numberplate from about 4 inches away and then overtake us like a space shuttle going pass an asteroid. :p

Most instructors will tell you to stay at the limit as long as it is safe to do so, which is how it should be done but rarely is. It does get on my nerves though when there's someone trundling along 20mph below the limit when there's no tangiable reason to do so... I don't get riled as such but the number of times people have tried to push me along when it's the person in front going slow beggars belief. Part of the reason for using my bike for my daily commute is to more easily overtake the dawdlers and get some distance between me and the tailgaters.

Im no expert on this, but isnt it illegal to drive at such speeds like that? (Without good reason obviously). I remember when my father was taking his bike test and he had to accelerate to the speed limit as fast as possible

The '40' drivers get me the most as some-one stated above!! They should be banned for life... 40 in a 60, and when I think "oh they might just trying to be safe drivers" they speed in a 30 zone doing.... yep 40!!! It's bloody mad!

I used to travel a 40 mile round trip to uni a couple of years back, all on A roads with limits of 50 and 60. I'd come across such people daily but it wasn't too bad since I was on a bike so overtaking was fairly easy. I can imagine that it would have been frustrating stuck behind slower cars and not being able to overtake each day.

Yea theyre the worst, blanket 40mph everywhere, grrrrr.

Really gets me when a driver is doing 40mph on a NSL A road for example then feels the need to slow down to about 35mph when they see the 40mph sign :/

My dads quite a slow driver.

I remember 3-4 years back I was going from my GF house to my parents house on my mountain bike, about 5 miles in total Sunday afternoon hardly any traffic on the road. As there was something quite large I needed to get to my parents house my dad come over to my GFs in his car to take it for me.

We both left at the same time, me on the mountain bike, him in the car and I arrived at my parents house a full 3 minutes before my dad lol.

I've driven the same journey countless times aswell since and I worked out that if we had both driven that day I would have been there 12 minutes before my dad. 12 minutes difference over the space of 5 miles

Its similar on longer journeys. We've both driven from Home to Devon a few times, and I always get their 90 minutes-2 hours quicker than him.

I blame my mum to be honest, 12 years of moaning at him for even thinking about going up to or slightly over the speed limit must have an affect.

Imo, going slow is oging to cause more accidents than it will prevent.
Especialy with me, blind road rage, i stuck my head out the window yelled at some woman in a micra once "Speed up you silly cow before i go into the back of you"

Doing about 20mph in a 40 zone, ridiculous.

yep its annoying, but those who refuse to overtake are 10 times as annoying. For example last week im on a 60mph A road that is a bit twisty and some chump is doing 25mph. Behind said slow driver is an articulated truck, the truck overtakes, but the next car along (saab) chooses rather than to just tuck in behind the truck and get past, to sit there for another 5 miles or so :(

my main annoyance with this sort of driving is these same people will flash you and get annoyed if you overtake them. I once overtook someone doing 25-30 in a 60 and she first tried to stop me by moving over then turned her full beam on. She had a queue of like 30+ people behind her!

or the guys on the motorway, doing 40mph causing lorries to have to take up middle lanes. Ah i wish the motorways had a min speed limit (except for traffic of coarse lol)

We're talking about the ones that do 40mph in a 60/70
20 in a 30

They should be forced to retake their test if caught for: Driving Without due care and attention. If they're too scared to do an appropriate speed for the road condition then they cause problems/annoy/cause congestion

Any thoughts?

I don't see what the big problem is, the speed limit is a limit at the day if the person doesn't feel up to going to a certain speed then it is up to them, but I do think when you get to a certain age you should have your license taken away from you, if you want to carry on driving you get to retake your test for free.

Thanks,
Jack

not a fan of people who do 30-40 in a 60 where its bone dry, max visibility and not a corner, or tractor, in site, unjust dawdlers do my nut in

not as much as tractors mind
