The chipset itself is very fully featured but if you are getting a lower end Conroe then a 965 chipset based motherboard is a better option in general.
If the man is on a tight budget then I would go for an Antec P180 or a Lian Li PC7 Plus - both are outstanding value for money with their excellent build quality. If he wants to save some then go for the Lian Li otherwise the P180 is the more expensive solution.

I doubt your setup is the slowest on here, i reckon there's a few closet celleron owners on here
Core2duo processors unclocked are still thrashing AMD's.
So they are the best bang for buck at the moment.
You should be able to flog your components to recouperate some cash towards a new system too (as and when your ready).

Depends what you value, i always (yes i'm guilty to) choose cases that looked nicer in the past. That said though, i brought an Eclipse from recommends here, and i've seen the Lian-Li cases (look nicer when infront of you) and i have to say, in my experience, when it comes to building a PC, the most important thing for me now is how easy and user friendly the case is to build with, then looks come second. If you can get a mixture of both (Lian-Li / Silverstone do some lovely cases to) then thats great, but me personally, i find the Eclipse is better looking then a good lot of cases i've seen. Main thing i like personally is the flat front (no door) as most windowed cases have the door hinges on the left, which means if you have the case sat with the window facing you the door opens the wrong way, making it more awkward to access your drives, though some newer cases have right hinged doors to go with the window (obviously i'm not the first to realise this flaw), but not many do....
This is for a laugh, but from what you said, can i ask a stupid question?...
If you had 2 cars, a Ferrari with a mini engine or a mini with a Ferrrari engine.... i'd guess you'd choose the Ferrari right?.... just for the looks?..

Not everyone can afford to build a new PC, not everyone buys decent hardware they can carry over, they get prebuilt systems, or just have other priorities.
Makes sense to me, i know plenty of people still using Socket A and older systems, even a few P2's..... depends what they need from the system.
These people dont necessarily know you need to upgrade to use new software, all they know is, you need a PC, you install it, its works.... not everyone, but the average joe.
