Slowest PC

It's inferior.

What's your total budget and what exactly do you want it to include?

Funny, coz i could have swarn i've been reading numerous threads saying the 975 chipset is better suited for the e6600 and upwards, perhaps i misread.

Cheers for the info!

To show you how out of date I am with memory, this is what I am familiar with

Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200

 DDR2 - PC2-8500+

Thats a myth tbh, in the early conroe days it was just some peoples opinion and others started taking it as sound advice, never seen much difference in benches and overclockability between the chipsets. Also i agree the 975X is far from 'inferior' lol.

Its £13 cheaper... before window...

I'd argue you have more room and less hassle installing any hardware in the Eclipse, well worth £13. Its just a dream to work with and you'll have less worries about clearance issues.

It is more a case of the 975 chipset isn't as good for the 6300 and 6400 because it often can't reach the high FSBs needed for good overclocks but due to the higher multipliers of the 6600 and up it matters less. The chipset itself is very fully featured but if you are getting a lower end Conroe then a 965 chipset based motherboard is a better option in general. :)

If the man is on a tight budget then I would go for an Antec P180 or a Lian Li PC7 Plus - both are outstanding value for money with their excellent build quality. If he wants to save some then go for the Lian Li otherwise the P180 is the more expensive solution.

masslac, why bother posting if you fail to see the point in this thread, your posts sound as though your fed up, if thats the case........just move on.

MarkLP-

I doubt your setup is the slowest on here, i reckon there's a few closet celleron owners on here ;)

Core2duo processors unclocked are still thrashing AMD's.

So they are the best bang for buck at the moment.

You should be able to flog your components to recouperate some cash towards a new system too (as and when your ready).

After just playing the Test Drive Unlimited Demo and closing it because It was jerking and juddering awfully.

There is a demo for TDU  I have been checking FP and google every now and again and I have seen no such thing.
Video demo's yes and xbox demos but a demo for the PC? please do link us :) I would love to try this game out.

its a marmite case though. i mean, i cant stand them, i really cant. whether they are easy to use or not doesnt do it for me. for that matter, i dont much like the p180 either. i spend more time using my pc than playing around inside it so once it's built i dont really care whats inside. It has to look good though. its a personal thing really:)

Depends what you value, i always (yes i'm guilty to) choose cases that looked nicer in the past. That said though, i brought an Eclipse from recommends here, and i've seen the Lian-Li cases (look nicer when infront of you) and i have to say, in my experience, when it comes to building a PC, the most important thing for me now is how easy and user friendly the case is to build with, then looks come second. If you can get a mixture of both (Lian-Li / Silverstone do some lovely cases to) then thats great, but me personally, i find the Eclipse is better looking then a good lot of cases i've seen. Main thing i like personally is the flat front (no door) as most windowed cases have the door hinges on the left, which means if you have the case sat with the window facing you the door opens the wrong way, making it more awkward to access your drives, though some newer cases have right hinged doors to go with the window (obviously i'm not the first to realise this flaw), but not many do....

This is for a laugh, but from what you said, can i ask a stupid question?...

If you had 2 cars, a Ferrari with a mini engine or a mini with a Ferrrari engine.... i'd guess you'd choose the Ferrari right?.... just for the looks?..

why do ppl still use old systems for like the above posters cause its obvisouly cant run new stuff

Not everyone can afford to build a new PC, not everyone buys decent hardware they can carry over, they get prebuilt systems, or just have other priorities.

Makes sense to me, i know plenty of people still using Socket A and older systems, even a few P2's..... depends what they need from the system.

These people dont necessarily know you need to upgrade to use new software, all they know is, you need a PC, you install it, its works.... not everyone, but the average joe.

athlon xp 2600
1GB ram
radeon 9600

I win. So far.
Funny thing is I don't feel I've missed much. Last game that truly gripped me was Far Cry.. call me picky. Anyway, new C2D + 8800 arriving tomorrow =). Good times.
