Small MX-5 mods

Seriously sounded impressive yesterday. I think I win the award for the smallest supercharger lol

:D

If you won an award for smallest anything it would be "pair of jeans"! :D Do you have to grease yourself up to get into those? :p

Impressive work DRZ :)

Thanks :)

I was reluctant to take out any passengers because of that pipe and the conditions combined with not really knowing how the car behaves with the new power levels. Come the spring/summer at the next meet I'll take some people out :)

Thought I'd got away with no jean related comments then. :p

Glad no one noticed the Vaseline sitting on the passenger seat of my car ;)

You have made me want to supercharge mine more now!

Seemed to pull well even though you weren't really pushing it. Better get saving i think

£57.49 including delivery, from AK Automotive.

There is nothing tricky about this at all - you need to undo the two screws either side of the gearstick (covered over by blanking plugs), the screw under the ash tray and the two at the back just in front of the boot release lever. Gently lift it up and unclip the connector for the window switches and the console will slide forward over the boot and fuel filler levers pretty easily. Swap the lock for the rear compartment over while it is out so your key will still let you lock the box.

Refitting is simply the reverse of removal(tm) apart from the electric window switch wiring. The Mk2.5 console doesn't have an ash tray so they put the window switches where the ash tray was, meaning that you need to leave the switches out to do that screw up. Unfortunately, the way the cable is means that there isn't really enough length to do that. I ended up not bothering with that screw IIRC. It is fiddly getting the connector back on but I have fat fingers so you might find it easier :D

Took me 20 minutes total and I did 0 prior research on what to do.

Where does it go? I don't smoke and wouldn't let anyone smoke in my car anyway.

I'd imagine the listing fees for an eleventy billion dollar ash tray would prevent you from listing it on eBay too - best of luck with the sale :)

You had clutch issues the first time and I was pretty much very ill (I didn't realise quite how ill until much later) at the cottage, the only two times I was around the hairdryer :(

Yeah - had the semi organic clutch installed shortly afterwards, and a bit more tweaking got it up to it's full 234.6bhp!

I'd have been keen for you to see what the differences are....

Ah well! Tant pis! Look forward to having a ride in yours! :D

Looks good, those engine bays always look neat.

Any plans for Intake charge cooling? Water or Air? Much easier to do on these than than the Honda applications.

In automotive land anything carrying pressurised air is charge air, and anything that cools it is a charge air cooler.

I dont subscribe to the aftermarket land that a charge cooler is full of water ;)

I want to fit a water-to-air chargecooler rather than an air-to-air but they are at least 3x the cost and weigh a fair bit more. Better throttle response and less pressure loss though...

You don't need a massive front mounted intercooler, you could get away with a second hand MINI one and just mount it so that it faces the front of the car, even behind the radiator. It would be better than having nothing there, and would be pretty cheap to do too!

If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it properly :) It won't be a massive intercooler because there isn't the space but I'd definitely mount it in front of the radiator!

I really want W-A rather than A-A but I can A-A for £250 or so and W-A is more like £700-750.

Either way, however I do it I'll add a KAVS -15% or -17% reduction pulley which should be good for a fair bit more everything everywhere :D

Nice work mate. I still really want to try a supercharged one to try the experience. I give it a couple of months before you're after more power though :D

Yeah of course if you're going to do it properly, mount in front of the rad etc, I was just thinking, if you want an uber cheap solution then you could really do it cheap!

I had a KAVS on my MINI.. does the job :D
