I *think I have a problem with my disk setup but Im not sure, but it is what i have narrowed the problem down too.

My CPU is an i7 980x and Ram is overclocked corsair dominator ram at 2000mhz so it should have no problems with what im doing but basically when Im saving or sometimes loading a file even in notepad for the first time I load the program after turning the PC on (even if its been on a while) it will pause for about 5 secs before it will open the file.

We are talkiing 340kb file here and there will be an obvious delay here before it opens, not strictly limited to notepad.

My programs are stored on my SSD and my data and files are stored on my Mechanical HDD

The drives are:

Kingston SNV425S2 128GB SSD

WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 1TB HDD

Anybody got any ideas what could be conflicting possibly between the two drives to cause the pause?

Thanks in advance

If you're loading something from the HDD then it may well have spun down as it's not being used by Windows.

It will have to spin up again before it can load your document.

In the power options on your PC there will be an option you can set so that hard disks are never powered down.

This will provide quicker access but the HDD will be spinning all the time as it is on most PC's where the HDD is the main boot drive.
