smallest "high end" system possible?

I also like smaller systems
Not sure how small you have to go, but in my Lian Li A03 I have the following system:

i7 920 D0
Asus Rampage II Gene
6 GB RAM
Xfx 5970 Black Edition
500GB Raid 5 array
DVD
Multi Card reader
Corsair HX850

You have a pretty sweet set-up there bud  although the PSU is a little overated even with a raid 5 set-up and that 5970 it will actually be running 90% efficiency around the 300-500w power consumption range, so the HX850 was actually a good choice for your set-up.

True - but I still have room for a second DVD/Blu Ray drive &/or a change to pair of 5870s if required.

It is a versatile, small case - but you'll need a good cooler and fans to make the most of it.

going to, was mentioned above. Ive never been too keen on shuttles, but they are tiny , which is what i'd preffer atm.

anyone got any spy info at all about them? I dont want to wait :P can only find 2 news snippets of about a paragraph :(

that a03 does look like a nice little case actually :) I'm still hung up about this dabox 100 though :P

I was looking into the A03 case a while back, although its a mini tower it doesn't really compare to SFF cases size wise.

Did this quick model to get a feel for the comparable sizes between my full size chunky lian-li V ATX mid-tower, the A03 case and the Silverstone SG06 SFF case.

A dabox would fall in-between the A03 and SG06, if you though your old v350 was to big then an A03 isn't for you.

A shuttle is around the same size as the SG06 case, so pretty damn small for a barebone that will take everything components wise.

I would wait on the shuttle myself if you want small, although I did that before with the SN45, SN95 and the SP35 and once they were released I never got on with any of them! :o With me there a sort of love and hate thing, most the time I hate them :D

i have a v600 atm so going to an a03 would be a bit silly :P

ive heared somewhere the dabox is similar to a v350 but a little shorter?

Waiting on the shuttle as i cant get a dabox till at least end of feb now :/ However, price for a shuttle seems might high, the current i7 is what £470, where as a case and mobo is roughly 300ish

J series guys:

allows for mitx mobos, ooo!
3 new systems, i3 i5 and i7.

all in on x50 too

THE HIGH-PERFORMANCE J SERIES

The Shuttle SX58J3 is built up from the new "J3" chassis, designed for hardcore gamers and enthusiasts who require full throttle performance. It is based on the Intel(R) X58 chipset to run the fastest, most extreme Intel(R) Core(TM)i7 processors, with support for ATI CrossFireX(TM) and NVIDIA(R) SLI(TM) graphics configurations. It's more than ready to meet the demands of today's hottest games with more realism, intensity, and performance than ever before.

CrossFireX and NVIDIA SLI support?? the shuttle board must use an expansion board for the second gfx card as this is just not possible with mini-ITX board size.
I cant see how tri-channel ram support is going to fit either.

Actually quite interested to see a review of the top end one, not that I would ever even consider one at the predicted retail price

actually, its 4 ram slots, but can config to use 3 sticks of ram. Like the current one?

current one does xfire and sli too?

i bet its gonna be topside of 500 though

actually, whats the point in this one, apart from it takes diff motherboards (ok thats a big step), but thats it. H7 does everything the same

Current one uses a bigger board, so its specific to the shuttle form factor and can fit xfire/sli configs.
I cant decide if the decision to use a standard mini-itx board size is a good or bad thing.

it just seems a bit silly, no top end gfx cards are single slot? so sli/xfire is a bit O.o at that size?

im confused now >.>

sg07 takes mitx and full size length gfx cards and atx psu! Interesting :D

Now just need someone to announce an i7 itx >.>

Then there is Shuttle’s SDXI Kazi, which is extremely similar to the high-end J-Series. Both machines are cube-shaped and come with Intel X58 chipsets, Core i7 CPUs, 1+3 channel DDR3 memory, dual video card support, 7.1 HD audio and 500W power supplies. The main difference between the Kazi and the top notch J-Series model is that the Kazi has a liquid cooling system, while the J-Series does not

They have a computer called a Kazi? :D Anyway just stumbled on this thread, it depends on 'smallest' or 'high end'. I was thinking on the same lines but obviously not powerful but how does a Mac Mini stack up?
