Smart Meter Thread

Just had a letter npower are rolling them out in my area this in the faq tho .(If you've had a Smart meter installed by another supplier you can still switch to npower as normal but for now we'll treat your meter(s) as a traditional meter and we'll send a meter reader to read your meter ). pointless having one in this instance . cant find any mention in the faq if the npower ones are compatible with other suppliers, not 100% anyway

If any of you have an NPower smart meter then please do yourself a favour and check they're getting meter readings. I'd called them a few times as we sometimes get a message saying that network connectivity has been lost but they assured as that the readings are coming though.

Our latest bill arrived a few days ago and it transpires that the last automated reading they have is from September 30th. I've called them about 3 times since then and was assured that everything was OK. They have a meter reading from November when someone cale and read them but our latest bill is an estimate and is way off. We've submitted readings but they don't accept them because they differ more than they would usually expect so they need to send someone to do a reading.

Apparently they have a technical issue which is preventing them receiving automated readings. Couple that with the technical issues they had with their billing platform that lasted almost a year and you can imagine we're not impressed at all with them.

These meters are not so smart as I first though.

Surely this sort of thing should have been sorted out before rolling them out?!

Anyway, I'd say yes. Certainly can't see any reason not to get one (although I'm sure the paranoid types will make their concerns known soon).
The rollout has been utterly half-assed, and there is no standard.

When, and only when, there is a well established secure, open standard that all suppliers are required to support will I be considering a smart meter.

glad i told them I didn't want one. they tried to install one last month and i said nope.

i'll wait until the last possible moment for when they will be installed for free. more future proof that way and all the niggles sorted out. i think i've still got 2 years to get one.

I'm with Ovo... they've been getting smart 'leccy readings since ours was installed in August, but no such luck on the gas meter! Account's well in credit as a result, and they've only just sorted it yesterday for pulling readings in, despite me raising it every few weeks.

was due to have mine fitted in couple of weeks after listening to this interview on radio 4 i cancelled the appointment.

what a farce all 6 million v1 smart meters may have to be ripped out and replaced at a cost of 4 billion pounds and they are still fitting them now!

Had smart meters since early 2014 fitted by EON when we came to re contract EON wanted £40 a month more .Swapped to EDF then the meters turned into dumb meters

Total shambles and after listening to Moneybox get even more of a shambles ...idiots
