Smart move keeping all the tyres the same?

I do a lot of miles and change my tyres pretty regularly, I always switch them front to back so the newest ones are on the front which seems like a wise move considering its a 230bhp FWD car (Focus ST).

My question is, tomorrow when i go for my latest set I can save about £30 by having some different but still decent tyres on the front the the back, right now it also has different ones front to back and I've always wondered if there would be any noticeable difference?

Should I cough up the difference to have matching or would it be stupid especially considering we're going into dryer weather now?

having different front to back isnt too bad.
having different on either side though, bad.

I only ever change 2 at a time but that's because i'm a noob at getting them to wear evenly, I always end up with 2 bald and 4mm still on the other 2 :/

otherwise i'd buy 4 at once.

As of tomorrow I'll have 2 x Bridgestone potenza re010 on the front and 2 x dunlop sp sport 9000 on the rear, can't see a problem!

you would be hard pushed to make all 4 go bald at the same time unless you are in a 4wd at 50:50 surely?

well they're certainly not top of the range tyres! The people who fit them for me (micheldever tyres outside winchester, very good garage that i trust) talked me into trying some Falken 452s when my continentals wore out and I've been perfectly happy with them so far, no discernable difference between them and my continentals or the michelins before them..

Nother other than the £80 a corner price difference that is, oh and the standard fit michelins were like butter, never seen tyres wear so quickly.

So the choice is the same falkens or some slightly cheaper ones, both get pretty good reviews so it was just deciding whether to spend the £30ish extra on the matching set.

I do about 25k a year so effectively just over 2 sets of fronts that become rears so the only bald tyres I ever have are at the rear if you catch my drift.

i know :/
i was hoping to hide that fact by taking the wee out of the next one after me :p

Fit the same tyres, leave the Falkens on the shelf.

It's falkens or falkens, 2 different models. Not really looking for a discussion on the validity of my choice because I'm irritatingly in touch with my wheels to the point where I obsess over tracking and tyre pressures and I've experienced bad tyres on older cars and hire cars.. I was a bit sceptical on the falkens but gave them a go due to being a bit skint at the last change and I've been really impressed and the last few months and certainly weeks have been challenging to say the least and they've been fine.

The question is any noticeable difference/benefit to having matching front to back?
