Smart move keeping all the tyres the same?

At work we had a man from michelin come and give us a talk on tyres...he asked us all where we would put newer tyres on the back or the front. Everyone said front. He produced a video which proved different...lol. If your going into a corner regardless of it being FWD and lose it all the traction at the front is gone.....crappo tyres on back means now you have no or poor traction full stop. But you would be better off it the back had the newer tyres......makes sense from one angle I suppose.

Or you could say that if you had better tyres up front you'd not have lost traction in the first place?

Of course the real lesson here being don't pile into a bend too fast for your car/tyres/suspension.

exactly, I don't have full no claims after 10 years of owning performance hatches/saloons by driving like a tit.

Frankly the front to back thing is purely because of wear, they wear slower on the back than the front so it makes sense to let them do their time up front then retire them to the back.

Also I get precious little time to get to the garage so at least if they go properly bald, illegally bald like they did this time I can still get around reasonably safely in the wet etc because the business end still has tread.

Trying to get around in last weeks snow on slicks would have been nigh on impossible.

My tyre choices might get better soon anyway, about to finish paying off the finance so that'll be £450 a month better off lol!

60k miles and still feeling pretty good :)

your paying £450 a month for an ST damn thats a crud load

bought brand new back in 2006 when there was no credit crunch and there was a waiting list, standing start, 3 years finance no deposit with a balloon payment of about 5k which I'm about to pay off early with my bonus (no I'm not a banker!)..

yes its a load but you live and learn eh?

£19k new, what £19k would get me now makes my eyes water but then I probably wouldn't get the finance and even if I did it wouldn't be at 4% so I guess its all equal lol.

I'm happy with how much its costing me, plus I get £750 a month car allowance so we're all good :)

I just bought a used ST, the tyres on it look about half way towards needing to be be replaced so will look out for those 452's quite a good price at £80/corner if they're any good :)

750 a month? you jammy ****:p I only get £430, which is why Im sticking to the company car scheme, and going for a boring Accord GT:(

for your ST the only tyres to get are goodyear F1 asymmetric I use them they are great and all the guys on the owners club think they are the best, its worth spending that extra on as they last quite a bit too

I had the Asyms on my Accord, gave me less then 5000 miles, just had them replaced yesterday with Michelin PS2, just hoping they last a bit longer but am not too sure as I've just realised that the wear rating on the Asyms was 240 but the PS2 are 220 so in theory the PS2 are softer. :(

thats madness.. unless you've done some track days you're either driving like a total nutcase or they were completely screwed up when putting them on.

Wish I had done some trackdays to be honest. I had them checked by the tyre place before they were replaced and couldn't see why they've worn so quick, wear was even across the tyres and the Asyms were made in Germany as I'd read that some made in China were quick to wear.

The PS2s which are 91Y as opposed to the previous 94Y of the Asyms do feel a lot better on the car to be honest but it's way too early to say.

It's far easier to correct understeer than oversteer on a FWD car, hence I'd always suggest putting new tyres on the rear (if you are able too).

Fox, your car is obviously an exception :p
