Smart move keeping all the tyres the same?

I don't move tyres around. I usually leave the front tyres to wear down then replace the front only. The rear tyres will soon wear out at around the same time as the 2nd set of front tyres so all four tyres can be replaced eventually.

So it goes in order like this when replacing new tyres - 2,4,2,4. You get the idea :)

The reason is that the rear tyres won't be doing as good job as brand new front tyres.

cheap compared to the top brands but rate VERY highly.
have a seach here, quite a few people have them now (inc me on my 330d)

Matt, im getting close to 19k out of the Bridgestone RE040A on the ST at the mo,and the grip levels have been excellent Ive probabaly still got 500 or miles in them, best tyre ive had on the car so far.

Well specifically I've never heard of them.

Well now you have

They're the second best tyre after the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymetrics, and better than the standard fit continental sportcontacts

and the best bit ? they're much cheaper. Sportcontact 2s for my VXR are nearly £160 a corner in 235/35/19. But The ultracs are £120 a corner !

Evo Tyre test 2007 (that did all the scientific testing) can be found here

I don't like having mixed tyres side to side because grip levels vary. It makes a difference on my car (tuned rwd classic) but I can't say I can tell the difference on her car (fwd megane). On hers we've got different tyres at the back and I prefer to keep the better tyres at the front because it's a car that understeers and has heavy brake bias at the front. Mine, I like all the same or slightly more grip at the back so it doesn't lock a rear on heavy braking and down-changes and it helps keep the back end in step.

I had 452s on the front, the garage were offering me 912s but at the last minute I decided to pay the extra and go with the 452s.

Then they cocked up and charged me for the 912s anyway so I got the 452s cheap! yay!

£68 a corner fitted and balanced.. to be honest the £78 for the 452s really isn't bad at all anyway.

Might check out the ultracs next time I guess but fairly unlikely, £120 is still pricey to me and they sound a little uncompromising for my life which is basically spent on motorways.

Wohoo 19k sounds very good! Best price I can find it £130 on blackcircles though, still almost double the price and I get a lot more than 10k out of the Falkens.

I think it depends what you've got and what you plan to fit.

yup. bran new goodyear eagles on the front, vs worn eco contacts on the rear will be "interesting".

So what do I do when the tyres on my driven wheels wear out? :p

did you even read my post ?

1) i quoted £120 a corner for my size tyre. I even gave you the size i was quoting, 235/35/19. The Falkens for this size are £95 a corner.

2) you've quoted from one of the most expensive tyre sites on the web. Blackcircles are notoriously expensive

3) assuming you've got the Focus ST wheels, which take 225/40/18 tyres which are £90 in the ultracs

Small price to pay for far superior and proven quality.

alright keep your hair on!

whereabouts can you get ultracs from? And what's the wear like?

for your ST the only tyres to get are goodyear F1 asymmetric I use them they are great and all the guys on the owners club think they are the best, its worth spending that extra on as they last quite a bit too
