Smart Plugs

... so what have running costs been on days you have used it as an office ... do you precondition.? (ie. on cheap octopus energy .. syncing it with Igo maybe even better)

e: (: sticking relays .. I'd be opening canister to see whether contacts are pitted/blackened - maybe clean with some wet&dry as I did for espresso machine)
Not much at all --- I have configured a timer so it comes on at 0430 to get an hour boost of cheap electricity. I might increase that now we are heading into the negatives. I need to spend a minute analysing the impact though to see if it is worth it.

n.b. January's £5.379 was an accident; I forgot to turn it off lol.

Week days where it is low is where I am in the office. It costs me about £60 total (train/tube/lunch) so this is way more cost effective.

Here is December 9th energy consumption (real time) and temperature:

So it comes on at 4:30am and gains ~5 degrees; shuts off till 07:30am where it puts in a shift to get it to ~20. It then sips the juice to maintain 20 before I switch it off when I leave the room (6pm in this instance).

yes seems good 200W / hr to maintain temperature - will the heat pump tell you what gain/scop it achieved.
( or with Rins * temp differential * area can you deduce it 0.9 * 15 * 40? / 200 => 2.7 ? )

Thanks so much. Now need to see if I can find a smart plug to use as a timer for growing some chilli and tomato seedlings under led grow lamp.....assume it would work to set timer for this

Yeah timer is pretty basic functionality on most of these smart plugs. Tp link / Tapo are the favourite and cheap enough

My Wife put my C-Pap machine on a smart plug, as she was fed up with me needing to pull the bed/headboard away from the wall to pull the plug.

...then the kids discovered if they told Alexa to "Turn Dad's C-Pap off", the immediate subconscious panic-attack it caused would wake me up faster and more safely than just shaking me (I have major PTSD - one of my biggest triggers is being touched when I'm out for the count.)

They find it almost as funny as the time my son farted near the air intake.

Ive got about 6 Kasa ones, but recently I've been replacing them all with Smart Life compatible Chinese ones.

Mainly because using them allows me to control things via my light switches, which are also Tuya compatible.

I use them a lot for sidelights. Most rooms the first light switch turns on the main ceiling light, and the second switch triggers a routine that turns on all the ambient lighting; floor lamps, table lamps etc in the room.

While some of the lights are smart bulbs, others are controlled by the socket.

I've also got a load of electric radiators and heaters in most rooms ready for when we get Power Ups (Octopus free energy sessions). It's a lot easier telling Alexa to 'turn on Power Up at 9am' than running round the house turning all the switches on.

15% off these at the moment so I've just ordered a couple.

I really need to do some tidying up of the power distribution in my shack, what I've got on the floor under the desk would scare the average person, I've probably got at least 30 or 40 sockets all daisy chained off one (but they're all very low current).
