Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Pre-Ordered a Watch Classic 46mm with the sport-band , £313 for the Bluetooth Version , Couldn't really pass it up at that price.

Did toy with the idea of paying a bit more and going for the 4g one , But realistically don't think i'll find myself leaving the phone at home anyway (plus paying more to use it on my current plan).

Anyone recommend some good straps, will any watch strap fit or are they designed so you have to buy from Samsung?

I ordered the BT/wifi only version with owning the last 5 galaxy watches I'm ever without my phone anyway.

They have changed the design slightly to add lugs near where it connects to the watch and it closer to the body vs standard strap it shouldnt make much difference tho any 20mm strap should fit.

Here's US site showing official straps(not on UK site yet) https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...hybrid-leather-band-m-l-camel-et-shr89laeguj/

I previously used any 22mm strap I've liked off Amazon for my Galaxy watch3 45mm but looks like they are now defunct so 20mm it is :(

Got to admit, I'm really tempted to upgrade to GW4 44mm. £100 trade-in for my current GW plus the 20% off voucher that's doing the rounds brings it down to £135.20!

Just a little concerned about a few things. First, the decision to move the entire range to 20mm straps is annoying; means my current strap collection is completely redundant. Second, the situation with Google Assistant and Google Pay is a little vague (and these services would be the entire point of upgrading for me...). It seems that Assistant isn't available yet, and Pay doesn't work. Samsung are basically saying they'll have Google's services on the watch at some unspecified future date "when they are ready". That doesn't exactly inspire confidence; they could be months away, and there's little certainty that they will be well integrated when they do land (e.g. will it be possible to set GPay as default payment? Will the Bixby button be remappable to GAssistant? Or will both services require the apps to be launched in order to work?).

Also curious about real-world battery life, as this has been the issue with WearOS watches in the past. Will the Watch 4 hold up? If it does, is this down to software improvements which will carry over to other WearOS 3 watches (which may suit me better)? Or is it down to Samsung's hardware?

It sounds like they're admitting that the battery life still isn't up to what Tizen was capable of doing, based on the 40hr run time which let's face it will be based on best case scenario. WearOS battery life has always been awful (unless a manufacturer works in additional battery mods that gimp features and/or install lower power screens like the TW Pro3), so I'm guessing 40hrs is an improvement which will come from two areas - one being the 5nm chip and two being some learnings taken from Tizen.

It's all balance really, I found Tizen's third party app quality to be really poor, even Spotify's offline music wouldn't work consistently, and Komoot would struggle to work in Assistant mode (where the phone does the battery intensive stuff, the watch just gets passed the next turn notification). So I'm looking forward to the app improvements that should come with WearOS.

Assistant and Pay I'm not too fussed with, been happily using Samsung Pay via a Curve card on my Galaxy Watch 3 (Monzo, my bank, don't support SP). Plus I've never found using voice assistants on watches to be a useful feature. They're usually limited and underwhelming vs Assistant on phones due to the lack of processing power to do the processing on watch, or there's limitation in the data bring sent back and fourth via BT to the phone, then the phone sending the info to the cloud for processing.

Do Samsung actually want the original strap for trade-in? Seems abit nasty wanting a semi leather strap.

I've just pulled the trigger on the silver 42mm Watch 4 classic on O2. £16 a month with first 6 month line rental free so £11 for 6 months.

I'll be changing the strap for a black leather one ASAP as I don't like the white strap but like the silver watch.

Really wasn't going to jump to the GW4.
However, offered a £200 trade-in for my GW3 45 (more than I paid for it - I got it discounted with my S21) and then an additional 20% voucher on top.
So pre-ordered a GW4 Classic 46 in Silver - costing me £135.20 to upgrade.

Pre-ordered a GW4 Classic in silver. £200 trade in for my GW3. Really hoping it arrives on the 27th August as I'm on hold from the 28th morning!

I flit between a GW3 and TicWatch Pro 3 - just cannot decide which I prefer, so hoping the GW4 scratches that itch away!

Is there such a thing as a "reliable way" to sell the Google Play voucher codes you eventually get for these purchases?
I mean, I'd rather have £60 in my pocket than £75 Play vouchers - but can see it being difficult to sell (buyer uses code and then claims it didn't work).

I'd rather have got something else free. Such as an extra strap or the dual wireless charging Dock. But I guess with this being their first watch with the new Wear OS they had to tie in with that.

Same.

But at least Play credit doesn't expire. Will cover next year's Disney+ or ~6 months of Ubisoft+, or maybe a Chromecast with Google TV if they start giving them away with Stadia games like they did with Chromecast Ultra.

Or I could just cover the next four and a half years of my Google One sub

I ordered the black watch 4 classic BT 46mm and with my Galaxy Watch trade in and discounts ended up at £219.
I thought the new Watch 4 classic used the 22mm band?

Dropped to 20mm I've read vs 22mm for watch3

Just got a 113mb update to Galaxy watch app on my Samsung phone whole new GUI and look

That's incorrect according to other information out there. All the new watch 4 versions use 20mm straps.
Hmmn well that's just annoying. I have a few 22mm bands that I was going to use, time to get the wrasp out:D

Samsung chat.....

Galaxy Watch 46mm will fit on the Galaxy Watch 4 46mm. As long as they are both 46mm the bands should fit.
