Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Something else? Like another app on the watch? Don't think so. But personally I always use my phone anyway. I've found that the watch can be a bit more fussy in terms of NFC reliability.
Yea like another app. I'm completely out of the loop with watches. Id like one for running etc so the ability to store music from an app would be ideal and NFC to pay would be handy if I needed a drink etc. Saves me from taking my phone.

I don't actually have a budget in mind but the idea of charging my watch daily is a big issue for me, it's something I don't want to have to worry about.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a Garmin (need to ensure the model supports the features below)

I used smart watches for years, and I've not looked back since moving to Garmin.

Storing music - it has Spotify and YouTube music lists which you sync a playlist via.
Payment - Garmin Pay, which I think has more limited bank support vs Google Wallet (doesn't support Chase last time I checked), but does accept Curve pay that you can link an unsupported card to

Running - honestly, this was the big reason I moved away from smart watches to a dedicated running watch (Garmin Epix Pro 2). Admittedly, I think some of the newer smart watches have added features that Garmin has always had, but couldn't tell you it they work as well as Garmin.

For example, when I moved, it was only the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro that had some form of clunky ability to give you run navigation. Garmin, I can either map out a run manually on Garmin Connect via any platform (web, app) and sync it to my watch or on the watch I could select the distance I want to run and which direction to head out in.

I can't remember which smart watch it was, either one of the Pixel Watches or Samsung Ultras but I swear I read one of the health companion apps on the phone support route creation/route crowdsource library/syncing.

I've had my head turned, the Garmin Epix Gen 2 seems to be a very solid all round smart watch and that's the one I'm going to buy. As much as I like the look of the pixel watches, the battery life would mean it would end up in a drawer and not used properly.

So, without trawling this thread, I've currently got a Samsung Watch 6 classic, 47mm from memory.
I like the thing, but I find I use it less than I would because the battery feels like it drains extremely quickly, even when just essentially using it as a watch with occasional notifications. I've tinkered with watch faces a few times too, as I found some I had liked just seemed to drain battery inordinately fast, which is a pretty major issue, as I wasn't even getting 12 hours, let alone 24.

I have the health tracking metrics etc on, as that's a large part of the point of having one, that and I like how well it integrates with my Samsung phone, but now it seems to switch itself off when its near 10%, and has had a few days where its either not charged properly, or has drained/refused to boot for no obvious reasons, which could have been down to bad charger seating etc, but all in, I'm starting to consider replacing it with a newer model. It'd be nice if a newer one was faster, more efficient (so lasts longer), maybe slightly bigger screen and has wider capabilities too as I always felt like this model was 'so close, but yet so far'!

Does anyone have any of the current Samsung Smart watch generations; and is able to feedback about battery life/capabilities?
If you had a 6 classic and are able to compare directly, even better :)

I have the Watch 7 44mm and get around 42 hours out of the battery. I end up sticking it on charge for an hour before bed and that gets it back to 100% or if I need to in the morning when getting showered and dressed etc. Use sleep tracking over night and the activity tracking during the day or when playing football.

Watch 9 is the current model.

I bought the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra Black early Dec 2024 and the battery life is still amazing.

I pretty much leave location, wifi and NFC on all the time.

This is pretty much why I've avoided the likes of apple/Samsung/Google watches. Shocking battery life.
I'm getting about 19 days out of my Garmin on a charge, even my 10 year old Garmin it has about 8 day life.

I have the watch 6 43mm since new , no plan to change it until it collapses completely. The battery is a day and a few hours at best with AOD and wrist to wake turned off. I am considering moving away from the smart watch completely as squircle design is a no go and to a tracker such as the new fit bit edge will work for what I need

Same, Fenix 7 still and only charge about once a month. Certainly get no less than 20 days and often charge at about 30%.
My mates Instinct during summer was getting infinite battery with the sunny weather.

I diched my Ticwatch Pro 2020 this year, got a Garmin Vivoactive 5 for just over £150 getting 16days out of a full charge compared to the 26/27 hrs from the Ticwatch. I never used any of the extra apps and the Garmin give me far better metrics and detail than the Ticwatch did..
