In the process of downloading Ubuntu 6.10 now anything else I need while I'm at it?

Edit: 10% so far, holding steady at 110 KB/sec (uni of kent)

Look for a thread around here called "Way To Go Team". Pretty much everything you need to do to set up Ubuntu and SMP is there. Just ignore the steps Billy gave for installing FahMon!!

I would post my own compilation but it isnt finished. If you get stuck with the aforementioned thread then just arsk :D

SATA master - that's what I'm stuck with currently.

Is that a problem installing linux?

In my experience as long as you are using a distro with an active development, it will recognize most hardware.

I would be surprised if Ubuntu 6.10 is having issues.

What is your hardware etc.

Thanks for the reply dunc

My stupid fault - forgot to change to boot order to ide cd-rom first - started first time after that :o

System is being Oc'ed and stability checked at present - but can't get a automatic connection via my work proxy server - so it's just normal WU's for me untill I've broadband at home.

Failed miserably to install either Ubuntu or Suse on the UltraD Opty box. :(

So, I thought I would bite the bullet and install on the C2D. Ubuntu ran from the cd ok. Install seemed to be so easy. Then when booting from hd for first time I got a grub error (18 I think) and couldn't boot anything. Then in trying to get windows to boot again I managed to trash that completely. Spent all day reinstalling everything and still cant work out how to get the disk space back that was used for the linux install.

Given up with linux for now!
