Sneaky Snipey games?

I loved the sniper sections in Medal Of Honour. I actually really enjoyed Sniper Elite V2 but thought that Sniper Ghost Warrior was utterly terrible.

Did you even read the OP's post? I mean seriously.

Woden made a valid suggestion.

There are two versions of Sniper Elite.

Sniper Elite, which woden suggested which is more sniper than its sucessor

Sniper Elite V2, which the OP has and isnt too keen on.

So seriously, did YOU read it all? lol :D

I've wanted something like this for a long time.

Like you say, the openness of FarCry 3 (although even FarCry, Crysis etc) lend themselves very well to sniping. So you'd think there would be a decent game out, alas, not.

Ghost Warrior - is ok, looks pretty but has a lot of problems you'd think would be resolved for a sniper game. There are set paths, the enemy AI knows were you are instantly, there are too many levels where you aren't a sniper.

Sniper Elite V2 suffers from exact same problems. The times you do get to snipe are good fun but it is just too linear with too many enclosed areas and magic AI.

Sniper Elite hasn't aged well, while the gameplay might be ok it looks worse and more brown than Quake. I don't know if there are any mods but I've never got past the first level. (Ends up on Steam for under £1 during sales).

I'm surprised Ghost Warrior is getting a sequel so I'm interested in what those levels will be like but I guess it will be more of the same which makes it a rubbish sniper game and a very mediocre FPS.

There are the odd epsiodes in a decent FPS but I guess it is deemed not popular enough for its own 'genre'.

Or get one of these. :D

Its a shame it seems the best bits for sniping are smaller parts of other games.

I will persist with V2, but I get very frustrated with sniping like a boss, only to end up in a close quarters fire fight getting mowed down by machine gun and pistols. Its also very linier in terms of where you can snipe from.

The best bit about sniping in FC3 was spending a few minutes scoping out the base from different angles, tagging all the enemies, and then learning their patrol routes so you could time shooting them perfectly to not trigger any alarms.

Its a good game, but as others have said it forces you to play generic FPS soldier mode far to often. Needs less SMG's in corridors and more massive maps with the ability to complete them having never been spotted or even noticed.

Is there a demo for Ghost Warrior? Looks like the sequel is due next month too.

Agreed, very fair points :-)

Although my inspiration for wanting to play this was completing Spec Ops the line just the week before, so all guns blazing isn't foreign at the moment :p

+1 for battlefield 3

All my mates have played it way less then me yet all have higher scores/ranks...they just don't understand the thrill of sneaking, crawling into position for about 20mins just to get that one shot on the bigger who's got everyone pinned down!

Had a bit of a moment on it the other day on one of the bigger maps (Caspian Border). Was in position covering one of the bases from afar when I notice two buggers sneaking up on the said base, instead of wasting the time and ammo on the two shots I just threw a round into the gas canister besides them and watched them go flying...the kill was just registered as a suicide on their part but it was a bloody awesome moment.

Also had some pretty good times with some more mid range sniping with semi auto snipers if that's more your bag.

Basically, being a sniper fiend I can't reccomend bf3 enough.

There's two DLC maps for Sniper Elite V2 which are far more open with a larger game area and no set path through.

The new one Saint Pierre which came out last week and the older Neudorf Outpost.

I love SEV2. Though I agree it would be an even better game if the missions weren't so scripted.

I have to agree with this. As silly as it is sometimes, I found the game lent itself very well to staking out a base and tracking all the guys in there waiting for those perfect moments. Although when I realised I could use the big massive loud .50 cal sniper and still get a perfect stealth score for taking out a base had me giggling. Line-of-sight, hills and bushes are your best friend.

Honestly, if there was a game that had a lot of the same tense, patient sniping scenes as the film Enemy at the Gates, it'd be stunning.

Not really a suggestion as it's really old but one of my favourite ever sniper games was the original Project IGI :D

Loved sitting up in the watch tower picking off soldiers running around their base wondering what was going on! :p
