all of the multi platform games were better on the snes, pretty much. They both had their share of awesome exclusives though. I'd say snes on the strength of those points. Loved my megadrive though

Super mario world (best platform game ever?)

IMO Mario Bros 3 > Mario World. Still loved and played Mario World lots though (those secret levels in Mario World have to be some of the toughest levels from any video game I've ever played)

For me SNES romps all over the Mega Drive, the simple fact it came with a 6 button controller as standard meant games that were developed for the SNES had more scoop for extra features that could be included by developers (Starfox springs to mind, graphics aside you just can't play that game on a standard Megadrive controller).

The game I probably spent the most time playing however was Sim City, highly addictive and satisfying and always made you want to do better next time around. All this from a game that involves city planning, taxation and finding the fight economic balance between industries, on the face of it hardly your classic console game for kids is it but all mates loved it as well.

Super street fighter Turbo was better than the megadrives Championship version.

You wouldn't believe the amount of time I spent debating the merits of SNES over the Megadrive with friends back in the day, I came into school one day and my mate took out a Sega magazine and showed me the front cover where it had Street Fighter II Championship edition I so glad when the Nintendo mag came out a week latter with the turbo edition. Looking back I've played a lot of versions of Street Fighter II and the original is still the best.

I had both, Megadrive first, then moved onto a SNES, not because I thought it better at the time but because I was a kid and wanted all the toys. I think the SNES just has the advantage, but my memories of Road Rash split screen will stay with me forever.

Two of the greats. I had a Megadrive at the time, but have since owned a Super Nintendo. It's in part a nostalgia trip, no doubt, but it has to be the Megdrive for me. It will always be the godfather of my gaming life (even though I owned a Master System)...

Super Nintendo had a better controller, better graphics and better quality sound.

Megadrive had a much faster processor, MUCH better music, and of course, better games.

Now the last point is, of course, in dispute, and I think that it's the crux of the whole debate. That's what's important, how much fun you had playing the console. Both consoles have an incredible library of games; Super Castlevania IV, Super Contra/Probotector, Super Mario World, you name it vs four great Sonic games, Road Rash, Shinobi, X-Men, Aladdin, Bonanza Bros, Castlevania Bloodlines, etc.

But the thing that settles it for me is the music. Yes, the SNES had better quality sound, but each Sonic game on the Megadrive had more great music in it than the entire library of games on the Super Nintendo. That's why I prefer it.

Neck and neck.

Hows this possible, its clear the SNES is the best:p

Donkey kong Country (Silcon Graphics rendered)
Secret of mana (beautiful)
Starfox/wing (3D polygons from SUperFX chip)
Super mario world (best platform game ever?)
Yoshis island (multiple sprite scaling/rotation from SuperFX chip)
Super street fighter Turbo was better than the megadrives Championship version.
I chose the Megadrive, but you can do better than that. :p

Super Castlevania IV, Chrono Trigger, Link to the Past, F-Zero, Super Probotector, Final Fantasy III (VI), Lost Vikings, Super Mario Kart... Too many great games to mention.

Can't we just agree that there is no way we can objectively say which was better, as so much fun was had on each? There were so many fantastic games... So much fun. :D

Neither, I owned a Amiga over both muwhahahaha. From limited use of both I'd have to say the megadrive though.

Definitely the SNES.
We had a Megadrive first and then got a SNES.
The SNES was just better and had better games IMO.
Super Mario World is IMO the best game ever made.
Plus you have Zelda,Metroid,StreetFighter 2(came out first on the SNES and was superior to the Megadrive version),Super Ghouls n Ghosts.
Although saying that the Streets Of Rage series was fantastic and the SNES didn't have any games nearly as good.

I think that's rose tinted glasses - there were plenty of side scrolling beat 'em ups like Turtles in Time and Final Fight, but as a genre it is very repetitive and quite boring when you compare them to the depth of the RPGs available on the SNES or a proper fighting game like SF2 Turbo. I think you'd get bored after the two levels if you went back and played Streets of Rage now.

For the record, my favourite SNES games are Super Metroid and Secret of Mana which have no parallels on the Mega Drive.

SNES for me.

Super Mario World is a fantatsic game, Mario 3 does slightly edge it but then you could get it in Mario All Stars. It had the best conversion of Street Fighter 2 purely because of the sound IMO, the Mega Drive version was very "tinny."

Then you have got the likes of F-Zero, Mario Kart, Turtles in Time, etc

I also got Sim City on the SNES, that was a fantastic game.

Super smash TV worked perfectly on the snes controller.

"I'd buy that for a dollar":D

Super tennis - brilliant.

Mystical ninja - brilliant.

Think the following images will sum up why the SNES is the best :D.
