I hope so - it's about time. The same was rumored prior to 10.5, IIRC.

The bubblegum Aqua UI looks gash. It's rooted in matching the old monstrosities, not the contemporary models. Thank god for the graphite modifier, but the entire style badly needs a refresh.

I think you've got more chance of Apple letting you install Snow Leopard on non-Apple hardware.

Snow Leopard is just a performance upgrade, with a few new features and bug fixes. Sort of like Windows 7.

Leopard was a bit of an under-the-hood upgrade, so I can't see them getting away with two of those in a row. A nice GUI update with the under-the-hood detail added in again would do the trick.

The focus of Snow Leopard has been on performance and quality of the underlying codebase rather than introducing new end-user features. So GUI changes arent a big priority :)

Although Marble as they are calling it would certainly be a welcome change

I would say its more like a windows service pack. Windows 7 has a lot of new features.

It won't be free. It's a major update. Apples own financial rules (I've read numerous things about this) don't allow them to provide major updates for free (hence the iPod Touch owners having to pay for OS 2.0 upgrade). I'm sure apple will make the upgrade worth the money...

...A completely new UI could be interesting, however I would be very surprised at this. I think we are more likely to see a continued UI unification, like was started with leopard, using some of the new widgets we have seen in the new iLife apps and the latest iTunes.

As for UI stuff, the new UI stuff in leopard was only seen the same time that apple announced a release date. I doubt we'll see any of the speculated new UI stuff in any of the developer seeds until a release date is announced...that is if there is any new UI stuff!

I've never had to change an Apple OS - what do they charge for upgrades like this?

Can I get it added to Leopard for a fee or do I have to buy a full version of Snow Leopard?

Usually £89.

It usually works if you've bought a Mac within a week before the OS release you can get it cheaper, if not it's full retail. £75 - £89.

it's always cheaper than windows as there ''should'' be no one out there with a mac and no copy of an os (as you theoretically can't build a mac and all are sold with an OS)

so it's classed as an upgrade

Not sure how you can say that based on.

1. The pricing hasn't been set yet.
2. Nobody knows what the final specs are.
