Snow White 2024

Disney has been losing money hand over fist for rhe past 5 year on their movies, hasn't stopped em yet

Fair comment, but everything has a breaking point, and even Disney hasn't got infinite monies.

Monolithic entities like Disney take a long time to shift focus unfortunately, projects are often planned long in advance and while "corrections" might be attempted during the production process they rarely work out.

It's within reason that the people up top with controlling interests weren't fully aware that they'd made bad investments until 3-5 + years worth of unavoidable flops. I think that's compounded by the "too big to fail" idea with a lot of huge corporations, but that's slowly starting to prove to be a false assertion in media. There's not going to be any Government buyouts for multi-billion US entertainment media related companies, more so under the current administration that seems hell bent on dismantling the sort of funding grants which have been available to certain productions.

I know you want this to be true, but Disney's movie division actually made money last year, mainly thanks to Inside Out 2 and Deadpool vs Wolverine.

It also made money in 2022 thanks to Avatar 2

^^ Disney went to pot for a couple of decades in the 70/80s after Walt Disney himself died. Part of the problem was that some of the animators left the company and formed Don Bluth which was a formidable rival. Disney got back on track in the 90s with Little Mermaid / Beauty / Aladdin / Lion King etc. The problem they got now though is different and it's a matter of how long it goes on for.

She's not helped herself. Turns out aggressive narcisscism isn't a great way to sell a movie, and even now she still won't shut up. If she'd have been smart and kept her trap shut and just done her job, which is as an employee of Disney, she could have come out of this debacle with some credit, as by all accounts she's put in a decent performance and she can sing.

She will be blamed by Disney, but that's Hollywood baby!

;)
Still does not change the Facts or the movie
If Lilo & Stitch turns out to be a success, then Disney could take note on who they hired for L & S and who they hired for Snow White. Then learn from that and keep politics out of it as L & S seems to be managing to avoid politics so far.
I have a feeling lilo and stitch will do much better, compared to most.
The Hollywood executive community keeps every major actor employed, Gadot is not exactly unique in that regard. People keep throwing roles at Nicholas Cage, for example, when what he really needs is a quiet padded room and three liquid meals per day with generous quantities of anti-psychotic drugs mixed in.

It's rating even worse than Battlefield Earth, which is quite an astonishing feat.
Nicholas Cage, can act and he has something about that people are willing pay to watch and both the people watching and making it know what you will get, just consider

Some time, I think they are doing it on purpose.

This dumpster fire of a movie has barely made 170m worldwide after three weeks :p It probably isn't going to hit 200m before being dumped on Disney plus with all the other garbage :D

That is one massive loss for Disney! Probably as much as 300m down the toilet.

I'm hoping this will make them think twice about pumping out any more soulless live action remakes full of bs propaganda. But knowing Disney, I doubt it.

I wasn't aware of a Tangled live action, so had to look it up. Apparently the Disney princess genre is now on hold because of the box office bomb that is this thread.

Live actions were a mixed bag but I did really like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. They were a mixture of being faithful to the cartoon versions while updating their stories a bit to keep up with the times. That's all they had to do with Snow White - update the story to modernise it e.g. Snow White isn't just a housekeeper. But no, politics had to get in the way and it got trashed by both the left and the right.

I think it's about done too, can't see the box office going too much higher now. I doubt it'll make 200m :D

Going to be a bigger flop than the marvels and dial of destiny.

Could be worse than that. Remember that Worldwide box office is revenue and not what Disney ends up which is likely 40-50% of revenue so Disney will only clear ~$100m.

Secondly, Movie Budgets rarely include marketing to thats probably another $100-200m atleast on top of the reported budget of around $300m.

Disney could loose half a billion on this film, and the worse part is we could all see this coming

Oh definitely right, you have to multiply the budget by 2.5 to get the break even point. That's the rule of thumb anyway.

Disney only gets half of the box office takings at best.

They should have canned it when the whole Zegler controversy blew up.
