So... Battlelog. Thoughts?

Yay another thread relating to BF3.

Why don't we start a new thread for every single aspect of the game, that would be far better than discussing them in the 279 page thread we already have for Battlefield 3 that's had over 609,000 views, over 22,000 replies and has been going for 2 years.

I much perfer Battlelog to a server browser, because it's so much more than that. I hope many more MP games start to use similar systems in the future.

Trouble with posting in that thread is, the discussion on battlelog will just get lost in there. You might have 4 maybe 5 replies about it, then the topic will change to something else for another 4 posts and so on. It's hard to keep track of it. Players just go in there straight to last page, have a moan about the game and leave. I'm sure i'm not the only one who's entered that thread, asked a question only for it to be ignored/missed/lost.

Having a separate thread about Battlelog will keep the thread on topic hopefully.

would rather have a actual game menu and browser

This.

I've not played the BF3 Beta, for a number of reasons, but a mate has been trying to explain Battlelog to me and I've been left quite confused by it.

Having said that, DICE haven't yet made a Battlefield game with a good server browser, in game or not.

I think it is a bit of a revelation myself. I am sure we will see this idea being picked up and used in the future by a lot of games companies.

I don't get the thought process behind people that don't like it. It's a hugely better system that in game menus/server browsers.

I guess some people don't like change.

i think its a good feature but i find it anoying at the same time, id prefer to be able to choose between both not be required to use the web.

Yup, having not played makes him uniquely qualified to comment on it.

I fully accept that I have not had first hand experience of the system. I am only going by what I have heard from my mate and what I have read on here about it.
The primary point I was trying to put across was that I believe DICE have never made a good server browser for any of the Battlefield games (for reference, I would say that 1.6 had a very good server browser).

For those people saying it's much better than an in-game browser, can I ask why you think this? What features does it have that a well implemented in-game browser does not?
Someone mentioned that you have to quit the game in order to join a different server? If this is the case then I find that utterly retarded.

Again, I apologise for having an opinion on something I have not myself experienced. My bad.

That is not strictly true, in that respect it is no different from an ingame server browser really, and in many repsects it actually works better imo. Personally i have no problems with Battlelog. It will depend on how they implement changing your options and squad management for me though.

Battlelog in my opinion is more of a hassle and complicated to use, so much stuff going on you are thinking to yourself "wtf".

The party chat has crap audio quality compared to steam or even mumble, there doesnt seem to be any ability to change settings when not in the game at which point it has magically decided to turn itself into window mode, which results in having to press alt+enter which is extremely annoying.

and i personaly think joining a server takes longer.

I'll tell you why battlelog exists because they want to create it similair to a facebook, thus meaning all your unique activity traits and what you do within battlefield 3/battlelog can be kept as data.

We all know our data on how we use products is extremely valuable, it can be sold as statistics excetera.

This is why there is a battlelog in my eyes as it makes no sense to move away from the traditional method.

I find this rather off putting.

The battlelog works well but I what I miss is the to mess with loadouts in game. I have not played a great deal and have a few unlocks now but have not worked out how to change my kit any ideas? I have just reached lvl 13.

The biggest inconvinience is that it runs in a default browser instead of Origin.

Why the hell do we need to use Origin if it's in no way related to the game after you install it?

I've got 10-20 tabs open in FF at any time, have to use another browser to log in with my details each time I want to start a game.

And seriously, what's with all the BF3 related thread lately?

I dont mind it so far, lets be honest, ea's ingame server menu has always been a bit shoddy, ie bfbc2. But battlelog seems a lot better.
