So... Battlelog. Thoughts?

Someone mentioned that you have to quit the game in order to join a different server? If this is the case then I find that utterly retarded.

You do indeed have to, but then again you have to quit to the menu in a normal game anyway.

BF3 has no main menu whatsoever, if you exit the match you are instantly out of the game.

i didnt really like at first but once you open a platoon it does get easy to join your mate s ..im apart of a community so it makes it easy to join my mates on the east coast of america at any time but i dont think it any thing new wasnt this sort of thing in tribes and the irc thing in ut 99 but lower level ..

If there was the option to use battlelog or an in-game multilplayer interface then I wouldn't be too bothered. If we're just stuck with battlelog I'll be slightly disappointed, but it would be bearable so long as they iron out the problems etc.

The battlelog works well but I what I miss is the to mess with loadouts in game. I have not played a great deal and have a few unlocks now but have not worked out how to change my kit any ideas? I have just reached lvl 13.

when your on the deploy menu its the last tab on the top.

Be ok if half the features worked for me

barely functions in IE9

Works Ok with Chrome but cant use voice chat - plug in crashes says reinstall - crashes says reinstall.. etc

Its a major step back in game browsing, reminds me more of my Half life 1 Death match days.
the whole alt+tab nonsense is annoying me and for no reason i can understand my mouse often gets locked into the game so i cant alt+enter because the window is always selected, if it makes sense, it basically means a client restart.. which means you lose your server slot.

well there are clear benefits of battlelog:

Benefits
: EA/DICE can do realtime updates meaning less patches for bugs in the Server Browser.
: Its Fast an efficent than Normal Server Browsers, which feel sluggish at times.
: Puts everything in one place Servers/stats/etc.

Disadvtanges
: Battlelog does not make up for no sqaud options inside game
: Extra running processes on Windows (not big deal for high end PC's)
: more likely to be attacked by DOS as the servers are open for scanning
: Need to Alt+TAB which could inflict Memory/Performance issues.

Conclusion
The only way i see around these is to have a Orgin Overlay with Inbuilt Browser Using Chrome/Mozilla engine. that way origin can Close the overlay automatically if asked once you log a server, it would still be faster and more efficent than a ingame server browser which is coded in c+/c++ etc. it would also remove any alt tab issues.

I think im right on the ball here and perfectly correct but you might not think so. :)

What I don't understand is why it hasn't been implemented in this way?!?

It feels like they've taken a step sideways rather than forward.

I don't get the thought process behind people that don't like it. It's a hugely better system that in game menus/server browsers.

I guess some people don't like change.

Completely this. I liked it from day one. its a bit broken atm but its potential is limitless and the fact that its flexible and easily patched outside of the game client is fantastic. I'm quite critical of dice tbh but I applaudthe innovation behind battlefrog

it does make perfect sense though, think about it from the outside perspective rather than a Gamer perspective.

Whats the the most common things General people do on there computers?
Surf the web, go on Facebook,Twitter, MSN & such.

EA/Dice created not only so you can join servers its there social community. you notice they have a tick box for BF3 in the BF3 Server Page?.

All EA games will follow suit. you will launch your game,Tick the box which game you want BF3,Need For Speed etc. then filter your servers. Not only that you will be able track your stats on all your EA games from one place & share your "profile" with friends family collegues without entering the game, Via Facebook,Twitter,MSN. Its a Gamers Social Club.

my prediction (ovbiously different games)

Not only that. if all there games use this Battlelog Technology, They only need One Server Browser = Less Time wasted = Less Money wasted = More Time fixes other things. Also If there is a bug in Battlelog website, they update one file & fixes all Games rather than game by game.

Blizzard having a silmar thing with Battle.net but thats only for game management/subscriptions etc.

I think im prediction is 100% accrurate only time will tell. hopefully you understand where i am coming from. where all not hardcore gamers EA want to get more casual gamers = more money.:D

Im not a total fan but love the idea aslong as they make inside orgin browser as sorts.

The biggest inconvinience is that it runs in a default browser instead of Origin.

Why the hell do we need to use Origin if it's in no way related to the game after you install it?

I've got 10-20 tabs open in FF at any time, have to use another browser to log in with my details each time I want to start a game.

And seriously, what's with all the BF3 related thread lately?

Totally agree steam has its own web page built in

i find it works a lot faster and better than bfbc2, that took ages to open and close a game constantly updating stats etc, this has suprised me! i was expecting the worst but am really enjoying the layout/speed

I find it feels less immersive having to alt tab out of the game. Shame it couldn't just load a webpage in game like the thunderbird mail tabs. Having to sort out your options in game I think is a bit daft as well.

I think its absolute drivel, just another meaningless step between me and the game.

I would have liked a normal ingame server browser like bc2, and a website to see mates videos and stats that would be separate from the game.

I think people would use a site like that, we don't need it shoved down our throats.

Have you even used the in game menus in BFBC2? Do you remember how long it takes to log in, to search for servers and then how long it takes to exit the game once you decide you don't want to play? Answer is: a HELL of a lot longer than it takes to do anything using Battlelog. It is *reducing* the time and steps it takes for you to get in to a game, not increasing them.

I'm sure half the people complaining about Battlelog either have amnesia or have never played a computer game before.

dont forget "UPDATING STATS" for 5 minutes when you leave the server :D

I think it's brilliant. Much faster to log in and join a game than an integrated server browser and tons more features than in game stats systems. To top it all off then can heavily modify it without even patching the game meaning you can have quite major changes to important aspects of the game with hardly any downtime or other issues.

You can browse it from the in game Origin browser too - though you can't join games via it - but that's something they might work on.

Good stuff :)

what do you think that 1 minute of receiving 10 PDW or Rifleman ribbons are for after a game ?

That's for the server to load the next map. Try exiting a game part way through in both games.

Seriously. People need to go to the doctor about their memory problems.
