So... Battlelog. Thoughts?

I just keep Origin running in the background and have a link to battlelog in my bookmark tabs. You don't have to keep launching the game form Origin just got to battleog and play, of course origin has to be in the background.

I like it! Just wish they didnt make the whole online system to reliant on it especially squad.

Massive uproar over that, I can see them changing as it's a stupid thing to do.

Superb, about time we had an innovative hub that allows you easy access to servers and pre-group/chat facilities.

total win from me, no more laggy ingame browsers !!

Exactly this. The BF2 browser was useless, and the BC2 one wasn't much better.

I'm struggling to believe people are genuinely objecting to having a few more processes running in the background - do most people not have afterburner, teamspeak etc running anyway?

I love being able to alt-tab out of a round in progress to check realtime stats, see where friends are playing and so on. Equally, to have battle log running in a tab, notifying me when friends are playing - it's then one click to join them!

The fact that it's web-based will also mean DICE can be continually tweaking it without having to push massive patches (DICE prefer the combined patch approach) all the time.

For them to have built such a slick system within the game would have be a lot more work - instead, they've based it on established web technologies and are letting the browser do the work.

I don't really understand why all games aren't doing it, to me it's such an elegant solution for a 'social' game.

For me it's the Source browser that TF2/CS:S uses, then Battlelog and then the other BF browsers. Anything is better than the BF2/BC2 browsers. They were slow and unhelpful.

I wouldn't be surprised if other games tried similar ideas.

I'm really growing to like Battlelog after playing some more.

The arguments for having an in-game menu seem to be purely aesthetic, unless somebody would like to justify why they prefer this?

Battlelog has been open in my browser since the beta went live. You simply couldn't do that with an in-game server browser. I challenge anyone to load up Bad Company 2 and get into a game faster than BF3 gets you into a game through Battlelog. Quick match takes a few seconds.

As has been mentioned, it may not be to everyone's tastes, and it does need some tweaking (give them time, Steam wasn't perfect for a long time), but they can use this in all their games, rather than having to spend development time on a fancy menu.

or you can open the web browser join a server and it launchs origin for you:p

just tried it worked perfectly.

It wasn't just bc2 that had a bad browser, they all have. Dice are unable to make a decent in game browser, they always have been. I go on record, I love battlelog, i think its one of biggest leap forwards the BF series has had. There I said it.

I think I like the browser, yeah I miss being able to start the game and piddle about with setting before a game but i think pro's outweigh the cons. It's slick but not without problems but I ams sure they will fix it.

Its only a matter of time before they let you sort options either out if game or when dead.

The comments about window mode, broken squads, key binds etc need to remember this is a BETA and they're not Battlelog problems (the topic of this thread). I know there are a thousand posts reminding you of this and DICE even had to post on Battlelog to stop the flaming but do try and think whether or not we need another post about the bugs. I've not missed the irony of this post complaining about the bug posts blah blah blah.

Anyway, back on topic, Battlelog is awesome. The facebook style social aspect is good. I can be friends with you on Battlelog and keep you out of my real life on Facebook/Google+ :p Server browsing in Chrome is fast and slick (tools->Create application shortcut) and the ability to see your own or friends progress is neat. Add platoons, voice chat, forums and notifications and its difficult to find fault. Yes I know all these functions are available elsewhere but bringing them all together in one place is a great way to build a "community".

It would make sense to run it in the Origin browser though.

One final point. Someone above posted about gathering stats and data on players for financial gain. You could do this already with statsverse or bfbc2.eu All your points, servers, clan tags etc are there for ANYONE to see. Tinfoil hat sir? ;)

It has some good ideas but not the best implementation, it blatantly should have been integrated into Origin.

Just found a positive use for battlelog. Just realised now at work. Logged on and had a look at my stats and next unlocks etc. Went on to see how my mates are doing and posted on his profile asking if he's up for some BF3 tonight.

The social aspects, all the data on there isntantly pretty much and can access anywhere. That's a postive for me. However, i would like it if it was an extra and not the main way for accessing the game and servers. Intergration with Origin would be good.

Does anyone else's BF3 return to desktop (doesn't crash) in a minimized window because the game doesn't recognize the cursor (still the windows cursor in game) ?????
