I'm not 100% sure it's a barracuda, however I am 100% sure it's 38. Cal Special.

Well, it's not completely dissimilar, the ejection rod doesn't match most of images online though...that put me off, I'm still not entirely sure it's not a chief's special.
But it does beg the question, if you don't know what it is - where the hell did you get it?

Lol, na. Just it's so old,d it will just blow up if I fire it. It was passed down by famly so won't be firing it.

I like though, the short barrelled stuff is a lot of fun, a group of us did a match a few years ago and we all used our little snub noses - The range was underground and the noise they all made was incredible! After a couple of stages the RO asked us why we were all using them
I know it's a .38 but can it chamber .357 Magnums, that would make it more fun
I've got a .357 here with my name on because I figure that if I own the bullet with my name on it then I'm safe

Have to echo about the tape on reflection, I don't know how the police would be over there but if you had to use it ever, handing over a gun with a taped grip probably wouldn't look good. Maybe time to buy some decent grips?
They're not too worried about that. The gun has a registered owner, so if anything had to happen, they can easily follow up on it.
I see from a quick google that there is a .357 cylinder available for that model, if it's legal to do for you I'd be looking for one of those - I don't know what firearm law is like in SA so I obviously can't advise but that would rock

Fair enough, my point was it could suggest criminal intent, taped grips mean it's easy to remove the tape (and hence finger prints). If it was a dark night, the cops turned up and there was you and dead guy it might look odd.
