So did NVIDIA lie about the prices or what?

I'm a bit confused...

$699 = £481

Add 20% to Osbourne.

=£96.

96+481 = £577.

Still a far cry from £636.... Where is the £60 coming from...?

From the loses of returned cards when people see that the real thing is not what the preview websites stated...... :D

Come on guys we knew this would happen. As long as there are people prepared to pay this price for new cards this will never end. No one needs these 1080 cards, it's a luxury item so expect high prices.

If you are all so bothered about these prices then please show Nvidia by not purchasing them. That is the only language they understand.

You have the power to do this, but you need to do it together.:D

and before anyone asks.....I would say the same thing if AMD do it too. Otherwise the prices will get worse and worse with each new release. We only have ourselves to blame here.:(

Nvidia said $699 for the Founders Edition.

So that is around £580 with VAT. However,as noted by many UK sites, the UK price would be around £620 which is correct.

The £40 increase is the "cost of doing business in the UK tax" which we seem to have.

You only have to look at the cost of Adobe software products to see how much that can be!! :(

The added pricing on top of that is probably down to the different OEMs too, which add their own premiums.

This is why reference GTX980TI and Fury X cards were not the same price at launch IIRC.

I don't think there is a "cost of doing business" increase in the UK.

Take Intel chips for example.

6700K $340 + 20% vat = £290.
6600K $245 + 20% vat = £203.

It is the lack of competition and low supply on launch that means retailers/suppliers can charge more.

I meant it sarcastically - plenty of companies have a UK premium. Adobe is one of them who made the excuse due to the "cost of doing business in the UK" and they sell software too,so it kind of came off as a lame excuse.

It is even the same with games- look at the cost of games here and then in another country and that is via downloading the games online and not using physical media.

And it will continue like this the more and more people keep buying these Overpriced GPUs. £450-£550 should be the max price range on top end GPUs Not into 600 prices its a joke.

Edit
I would say even cheaper tbh

We really need AMD to come in with some good competing cards and competitive prices. However with how AMD tried to mix up prices on their high end cards (Fury range) I'm not sure if they will. I can see enthusiast cards being a lot more! Still going to wait and see but might be sticking with my 980Ti for a while longer if so. Screw the milking and price gouging.

Everyone keeps saying we will see a price drop etc.... but we didnt' really get any price drops on the 900 series cards.

This ^.

There were few ref 980's cleared out at just under £400, but apart from that, the 900 series has been pretty stagnant in price. 970 launched at £250, and still is around that price today.

Adobe eventually stopped making excuses and said the EU and UK were massively overcharged because Adobe could do it.

The markets are just very different. Look at the price of a car, or petrol or a house, etc. A 1080 costs much less liters of petrol in the UK than the US:p

There was none on the 700 series. One day they were at their normal price, the next they were gone.

A couple mainly 780 LE made an appearance at reduce price almost a year later.

this prices of custom and FE is just marketing, the fact is custom will sell around 400£ for the 1070 and 600£ for the 1080, you will never see a custom card selling for the MSRP 370£ and 550£.
so just forget the custom Vs FE price difference, everything will be priced around FE 20-30£ give or take.

The thing is though...UK retailers may not be entirely to blame. I recalled seeing in the Nvidia had MSRP in dollars, and then another MSRP in pounds that actually cost more because they think the UK folks should be milked for more? :p
