Ordered something yesterday from a company in Manchester. DPD picked up the parcel at 1500 in Manchester and had it at the B'ham hub at 04:53 this morning. It was sent Express Next Day. Then the trace goes cold. It did say they expected to deliver it today.

At 10:00 I called Customer services (CS) and asked why the tracking did not show that the parcel was on the van, out for delivery. I was told that they were 'a little late' getting the parcels on the vans and it may still be being loaded.

I called back at 12 midday when nothing had changed. This time I am told that the driver of this particular van has reported his handheld device is not functioning, so I should still expect to get the parcel late this afternoon. I was also told I would be called back by 14:30 to confirm after speaking to the depot.

I don' hear anything at 14:30, so I call CS to be told that my phone was busy and they had attempted to call. I find it hard to believe, as I have call waiting and no voicemails left. Anyways, the driver cannot be contacted and CS are going to speak to the depot to find out where the parcel is and call me back.

No calls by 15:30 and I am still sitting at home waiting. Sooo I called CS again. Nothing has been done since 14:30 (well 1000 actually). I get put on hold as the depot is contacted then I am told 'we will put you through to the depot manager.' OK. So I speak to some random guy, who isn't the manager, who says they have lost the parcel, definitely will not be delivered today and probably not tomorrow either. If they find it they will 'upgrade it for free' for Sat delivery. Oh by the way I cannot initiate a 'parcel search', only CS can. So I get transferred back to CS only to be told 'only the sender can ask for a parcel search.'

So I called the sender's company and they surprisingly called DPD straight away and called me back. They also conceded that its probable that I will not get the parcel until next week.

So I called CS again at 16:30 to lodge an official complaint. Which Company has a policy where only the sender can intiate a search for a parcel - when the parcel is lost wihtin the company itself?? Anyways I have been contacted by an 'Executive' from DPD who conceded they don't know where the parcel is and I probably should not expect it tomorrow. Although the free upgrade still stands.

Right so let me get this right. You lost a parcel which you cannot initiate a search for and then you have the audacity to suggest that you are doing me a favour by delivering it on Sat??

Muppets...total muppets. I for one would not give them a penny for delivering anything to anyone.

The funny part is I am sure that the parcel is in the delivery van as this particular van driver is a complete numpty and has done this before.

The wait continues.

CS problably phoned the driver and told them to throw your parcel out the window. Just to wind you up a wee bit more.

I think the driver probably did that just as he left the depot. If its the usual guy, he is a total moron.

The customer service wasn't great but seriously you phoned up at 10am the day the parcel was supposed to be delivered? its not unusual for tracking to be delayed in updating and even the despatch email, etc. will say that.

Slit wrists TBH. It's the only way to resolve this unlivable situation. I'd be having a panic attack if my parcel didn't come in less than 24 hours.

I would guess it is still at their hub. 5am seems far too late for it to connect for delivery that day. Most couriers seem to be loading their vans around 7am and it is unlikely your parcel would have made it from the hub to delivery depot in that time.

Did you mention to the depot manager that this has happened, with this particular driver before?

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't take claims against an employee seriously. Especially if he has a history of "losing" parcels.

In other news, DPD are my favourite courier. They usually give me an hourly window by 8:30am and deliver exactly when they say :)

If you paid extra for next day delivery you have the right to complain but sometimes these things happen though and I don't think one parcel going missing can reflect on DPD's overall service. I personally think DPD are great especially with the 1hr time allocation slot and i've never had a problem. It's when you have consistent problems cough *citylink *cough* then you have the right to make a full blown rant to the internet :P

EDIT: Just seen you did indeed mention that the driver has done this before. The best thing to do is to call back and mention this.

Time to up the toys, jump back in the pram and carry on playing until next week.

So life's a bitch, things can go wrong, live with it and look forward to your next delivery.

You rung up to complain it was late, before it was actually late. They now feel no obligation to deliver in a timely manner as you have already complained.
