So erm, first breakdown

You would have gotten a Good Golf for the money, easily get a Golf with the same performance (probably better if newer models/diesel with a MAP) and just as much comfort.

I don't think he would have – He's in the Netherlands, not the UK and the used car market is quite different.

However, moot points aside, it's still a shed. :p

It actually wont.
Yes it will, a mk4 golf is ****, the suspension is stiff as hell and it's slow too. And it's not even worth comapring when mk4 golfs cost 3k and upwards. This is a 1000€ car, not 3000+.

You keep on saying "It's quicker and more comfortable than my old car" as if this is a massive achievement. Your last car was a 1.6 Volvo. Those weren't very big shoes to fill.
No...

Oh, and Your patch job on the radiator is hilariously *****. You haven't "fixed it", you've bodged it to the point that it'll work for a while but will quite possibly fail leaving you stranded god knows where. FIT A NEW RADIATOR.
Waste of money. BS. We've done this on an old e9 Corolla too and it stayed fine for the 2 years we owned it after. A leaking rad won't leave you stranded anywhere because it can be fixed with the stuff I have in the car now.
Actually, do us all a favour and just stop posting about your car. To be quite frank it's not particularly interesting or informative, and it actually boarders on frustrating how you can't seem to take onboard the opinion of anyone, despite the fact that it is clear to people who are thousands of miles away and have only seen the car on a computer screen that it is a complete and utter shed.

I disagree abour you point that 1 rusty panel makes a car a shed, this doesn't even remotely affect the way it drives and onyl affects how it looks from 1 angle, while other cars look like a penis from all angles.

Serious question, do you not feel really embarrased turning up places in such a tatty car? Do you not find yourself tempted to park it round the corner and walk the rest of the way?

Of course not . Most people don't even notice it. There are far worse cars everywhere.

Let me correct you, it should be €3000 however you bought the tattiest example available so in theory you could have bought a ruined Golf or a ruined Galant. Don't worry, you'll soon hit a point where you realise you are wasting time on this car, I hope it doesn't take too long...

Once again I find myself agreeing with joshy. Can't believe that day would ever come...

I'm not sure if I should be flattered or offended :p.

When I read my posts I can't help but think that I'm being slightly hypothetical - I myself am a young guy who likes rocking about in old tatty cars, but at least all of mine were vaguely interesting in one way or another .

Well at least you admit it. Snowdog is in denial and thinks his Scrapheap Challenge special Galant is the best thing since Hovis.

The Dutch have notoriously short arms and long pockets.

€1000 really is a bargain, even for a complete shed. Especially as it's working normally without much extra work.
My Volvo cost €2500 from the Netherlands and it needed 4 new tyres (5 year old CS2s on the front, and worn Bridgestone and Viking on the rear) and a back box.

Stop it! You're encouraging him! :p

To be fair, if he wanted a cheap runabout car and treated it as such (I.E realized that it was a heap) then there wouldn't be an issue.

Instead he first came in showing off his brilliant bargain that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it apart from needing a clutch and the arch fixed. People tried to warn him that there would probably cost a fair bit of money to sort out and that perhaps he should find an example in better condition but no, he can get blokes in poland to do the work for peanuts and the car is a magnificent bargain. It even comes with a towbar that'll protect the car in the event of a rear end accident .

From what I can remember, he had 4000 euros to spend, I.E enough money for a seemingly half decent car, why put up with a shed that has already left him stranded in what? A month of ownership? And yet he still defends it to the death!

There is no problem with driving old, tatty, slightly crap cars about but you've got to have the ability to take a step back and see things from other peoples' perspective. If you're not willing to do this why the hell would you continue to post about it on a forum that is renown on the internet to be confrontational and isn't scared to say it like it is.
