So I bought a Bonsai Tree

Pruning, do I cut all the wood branches? I feed with bonsai feed 1/2 cap (dobbies brand) in .7l filtered water and water over days.

By the way what is the tray under for? It's NOT a drip tray I hear it's a humidity one so should be filled with water?

Crusier I LOVE that did you make it? what is the hole for?

I always like the idea of bonzai trees, I've had a few in the past but they all died within the first year. I'm usually pretty good at looking after plants too and have loads of other ones around my house, it just seems that bonzais hate me. :(

no came like that, it just caught my eye and i had to have it
just a small hole through the stones to get water to the soil
first bonsai so it'll be interesting to see if i can keep it alive :)

when it dies get a spider plant. before you know it you'll have 100 of the buggers on every window sill and you'll wish they'd die like the bonsai did in the first week. bonsai was the first i got and big mistake as it's not easy to care and off putting.

lol. yup. they are impossible to kill. our conservatory looks like a scene from Jumanji :)

i used to have a few bonzis. unfortunately with moving etc last year and baby all but one has died now. my best ones (£120 and £90) have both died.

supermarket ones are usually quite easy to keep. the elm ones are very easy to keep. the more obscure ones such as tree of a thousand stars (something like that) are a nightmare.

generally feed them in the growing months and keep them inside when it gets cold. you can keep them indoors all year round. water regularly as they have small roots.

I really want to have a bonsai tree, even the sound of how challenging it is to keep alive intrigues me.

go to B&Q and b buy one of their largish £25 elm ones. they are really easy to look after. mine is 3 years old and everyone told me it looked better than my more expensive ones anyway.

its quite a therapeutic pastime.

I decided to buy some plants for my bedroom to brighten it up abit. I got 2 foilage ones a flaming kate (that sits in straw elephant) and I got a Bonsai. All from BnQ,

I am a n00b with plants, not too sure what to do with bonsai I spray it's leaves with water and pour in water to the soil area daily. I use baby bio on it every 2 week. I need to prune it soon right? Do these get pretty big?

£12 @ BnQ BTW the long silver thing is a blue led candle, the white square is a wakelight.

this one needs some pruning, bigtime!

When you look at the picture you can see an outline of a ball shape. I'd just prune it back to there. It will then send out new growth from lower nodes. Then it's just a case of keeping it in shape.

As long as it is healthy (which it does looks like) it doesn't really matter, it won't die. It just needs tidying up.

It doesn't need to be a ball shape however... have a look here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=k2-eT_KRCYL_8gP_wpTbDg

the same

Hi i got a bonsai tree from tesco aswell its the same as yours the same leafs and it has the little buds on it but i am wondering do u no what type of bonsai tree it is:D

One of the most common (and hardy) types of Bonsai, and therefore most likely to be sold is a supermarket, or similar type outlet, is a Chinese Elm.

Just don't forget to water it every two or three days.

Hopefully the container it is in has holes underneath, so just water the 'soil' until the water runs out through the holes and you should be OK.

This helped me with my tree, Its dead now :D But thats due to me going on holiday and my brother not looking after it properly.

But have a read of that, The tree can look dead during the winter.

I have a friend who brings his tree indoors during the winter, Its planted in the garden but its roots are growing in a sack. It seems to be surving :p
