Decided that I would start my little dream of owning a Mame (and basically every other home console known) Arcade Machine.

The majority of the frame is built already and ive decided on a 4 player setup with LED buttons, however i'm at the stage now where im holding myself up by not finishing the control panel design. Im getting it printed on polycarbinate laminate with self adhesive so it will be very durable, but I just wanted to see what peoples impressions are of the layout/design concept so far.

Its still a work in progress, I have yet to edit Players 3 and 4 Button layouts, probably going to go with only 4 buttons for those, but will see how it goes! The middle section is a trackball btw!

I will update with more pictures if people are interested, please note that prior to this I had no woodworking skills at all (or adobe illustrator skills!)

Pic of the frame (this has been primed now and the control panel box built) Has the Hanns G 28inch lcd in there!

A later pic of the control panel (bit of a monster!)

Looking very good so far :) I've always wanted to do this myself, but haven't got room in the house to put it, let alone build it!

If I ever buy a house with a decent sized workshop then this is one of the first things to do. And after that a Hyperpin table :)

Nice so far.

Always fancied doing one of these. Don't have the room though. I'd need a Star Wars yoke controller as well.

Fantastic. I'd absolutely love to have something like that in my home.

What sort of system are you planning on using to run it, if you don't mind me asking. I'm guessing you could build one pretty cheaply....*has ideas brewing*

Yeah you can run mame well with any dual core processor. Im using a Q6600 clocked to 3.0 with 4 gigs of ram and an ATI 4790 for mine (got everything from members market!). I wanted something with slightly more power as I intend to run N64/PS1/PS2 on it as well.

Will be running hyperspin frontend, which requires a bit of cpu umph by itself and since the Q6600 are very cheap now I figured it was a good start.

It would be better with a 4:3 monitor.

Originally I was going to use a 30ish inch triniton, but its way more hassle (de casing the tv, weight issues etc), I had the Hanns G laying around unused so I went with that.

Plus im going to have SF4 and various PC games also (house of the dead 2/3), which all look better on the LCD. Recent versions of MAME let you use scanlines and such to make the arcade games look more authentic, and actually after playing around with the settings the games look pretty awesome. So im happy with my decision
