It is 70 years since the firebombing of Dresden, one of Britain's most infamous acts of terrorism and discriminate targeting of civilians and refugees in World War II. Perhaps a little humility would be in order?

This thread won't end well.

I predict it will turn into something religious/islamic related before page 3.

I don't know much about this event in WW2 so will read up before I return with something more substancial.

Total war is total war, **** happens, it was them or us, suck it up and stop whining, all sides committed what can be called acts of a atrocity (some nations worse than others and Britain was far from being the worst) it was the nature of that conflict.

No, I don't. Read your history.

Read yours, because indiscriminate bombing of civilians is exactly what Dresden is an example of. It also arguable that it is not an example of an act of terrorism as it did have legitimate military importance, even if the civilian casualties and nature of the firebombing overshadowed that.

I came into this thread expecting a celebration of the seminal 70's Granada TV punk/new wave music magazine show fronted by the late great Tony Wilson. :(

being born / lived around 100km away from Dresden. shame on you all ;)

sad times indeed, but not like the germans were any better :(

We were fighting a Total War with Germany and Dresden was a legitimate target. It was certainly not "terrorism" as it was conducted by state actors in an active war.

Not that it was the first instance of it, but it was an example of a shift from military vs military to civilians being targeted (albeit usually actually infrastructure that was targeted).
