So I've just passed my driving test.. QUESTIONS!?

Just ring them up and quote the reference number, go through the details on the phone. I'd be surprised if they still want an extra £900.

I wouldn't pay £2900 to insure a first car, seems like a complete rip off. I drew the line at paying £1200 on car insurance.

it's not going to be valid that's the problem :/ It's worth giving a shot or I guess I can -;

test drive
put the deposit down
insure it
pick it up

problem is the distance, 2 hours on a train 2x is a bit of a kick! :o

I'd love to pay less but the reality is that they're going to bend me over no matter what car I take! 2.2k is one of the cheapest I can get :/

Lucky you, I paid £2,000 at 18 (Parents added, TPFT, quite high excess). Cheapest I could find anywhere and that was on a £2,200 6 year old Fiat Punto 1.2.

yeah and I've got no one to add haha :o

Thats pretty much what you have to do unless buying from a dealer (where you might get free 7 day insurance - which gives you a bit of time to sort out your own car insurance cover).

Maybe insurance for new drivers has increased even more so since I passed in 2009? Have you tried Admiral (or any of its sister companies), I've always found them competitive.

yeah, guess I'll just have to bend over in that sense and sort it out over a couple of days! :) the pain of getting a first car! and then there was me, thinking that passing was stressful enough haha.

they have indeed, I did some random quotes when I was younger(18 etc) with companies like bell etc and they were around 1600-2400!

add the fact that I live in a high crime area in south london just adds to the hammering..

I just paid £1090 fully comp for a Honda Civic 1.6 Sport (110bhp), I've my dad as an additional driver that brought down 300-400 quid another 100 off by putting in my clubcard. :D

Happy with it, pretty nippy considering this only weights a ton and has 110bhp. :) VTEC Kicked in yo! :D

Nice one! I was looking at those civics too :) saw a few around! Insurance was around 2600/year thought. I've got no one to add really, adding my family members with 8+ plus on their license actually increases the price but a good amount.

It's here! :) very smooth to drive and powerful enough for a first car! was an interesting drive from Luton so south london, first my gf's house then my house.. 70ish miles covered in a new car!

Nice grudas, what engine you got there? Considering its a sport, is that the 2.0?

BTW 2,6k for an EP2? You're older than me, it should be cheaper... so how much was the insurance for this mazda than?

yeah it's the 2.0 petrol :)

I am older but I live in south london and one of the "worst" postcodes in it too so I believe that increases my premiums by a massive amount!

mazda is 2.3k which is weirdly cheaper than the civic and it is more powerful  the funniest bit was when I did a quote for ep3 type-r... cheapest one was 24k :D
