So i've sold my dead ps3..

My Japanese PS3 packed up on Friday last week, was in 2 minds whether or not to buy a new one, but after seeing how easy it is to dismantle I've bought a replacement laser, so fingers crossed, that should fix it.

How much was the replacement laser if you dont mind me asking? as my cousin has a broken PS3 with laser failure.

^^ Got the laser from a popular auction site, cost £60 with postage. Make sure you get the right one though as there are 2 models the 400aaa and the 410aaa, the former has the single lens whilst the latter has two lenses.

Once I have recieved mine and installed it, I'll report back and let you know if it works.

hmm, got a bit of a problem, when i got the new xbox out of the box when i got home yesterday, some bit of plastic fell out of it, i thought okay never mind. but on closer inspection, when i took the hard drive out, it was one of the lips you slip the hard drive under before clipping it in which had snapped off (or half of it should i say). should i take it back and get a different one? obviously this one had been thrown about while in its box.

Up to you. If the hard drive sits in snugly I'd probably keep hold of it, personally, but as you say it's probably been bashed around a bit before you got it.

I took it back because as my manager pointed out, if the other side was to snap for whatever reason, the hdd wouldnt sit snug anymore. They gave me a load of bull about not being able to exchange it (which is a lie, i work in a shop) at the end of the day, if you bought a car, and part of the bumper had been snapped off, you'd take the car back to get either the bumper replaced or the car.

I had to ring the customer care line in the shop to get anywhere with them! The shop floor manager was being a prat.
