So, looking to sell my Wimbledon tickets

Ticket touts = scum.

No, you're just hard of thinking.

If I have a lump of gold and I want to sell it for the market value does that make me scum?

If you want to sell your house for what it's worth rather than what it cost to build does that make you scum?

Things have a value, that's how it works in a market economy.

You've got Ron Paul on your signature and you want bleeding price controls.

Scrap the price controls on tickets, let the market decide the price.

Jeebus T Christ.

Stupid idea!
Would turn what is already regarded somewhat of an elitist sport even more so!
By doing what you suggest your effectively saying ONLY rich people can buy the best/good tickets
Tickets prices should be set and it should be on a first come first serve basis or fairer still it should be 100% random Public Ballot!
That would be the fairest and most civilised way of doing it, the amount of money someone has shouldn't give them an unfair advantage especially when it comes to sports tickets, we should be encouraging our youth to get out and get fit/active!
The fact tennis is still such an expensive/elitist sport is on of the reason's it's taken us 74 bloody years to get a Brit into the final!

Communism. Yes. Really.

Edit : And hyperbole.

Surely anyone can see that gold which is a commodity/currency and is purely used as a financial tool, is not the same thing as tickets for a national sporting event purposely sold far below the market price so that they give an opporunity for people from all walks of life to see the event rather than being an event for the rich elite few?

No matter what opinion you hold on the morality, the comparison is absurd.

I don't think it's absurd, no. The public ballot is basically a lottery when it comes to men's final tickets. If you end up with those then you do realise they are worth a fortune and what the opportunity cost of not selling them is. I was making a more general point about ticket touts.

You can't enforce price controls in a market economy.

Gold isn't a currency, however it's pretty close to one. It's a more readily traded commodity than Wimbledon tickets, certainly.

The point still stands though, ticket touts aren't scum. Everything else in the UK is up for sale. Nice car? Nice house? Nice kitchen? Nice holiday? Nice clothes? Nice food? Etc.

Why should tickets for a gig be different to everything else?

The reason ticket touts exist is because they don't tier and release tickets properly. Ticket touts are exploiting what concert promoters fail to do.

They are catching on though, it's widely believed that many of the tickets that look to be from touts were directly released by the promoters to the secondary ticket sources. So they're catching on by stealth.

What is wrong though, in principle, with people having to go see a lesser band than their favourite band, because ticket prices are high?
