So many 7700k threads but why no owners thread ?

So rather than start an owners thread, you start a thread about why there isn't an owners thread.

Brilliant! :D

I am in no position to start an owners thread as I don't own one !!!

Having said that it would be nice to read about the 7700k in a properly done owners thread. There is nothing worse than sifting through numerous threads about the same thing.

Why do you even need an 'owners' thread?

Why not just have discussion thread ..

Owners threads, and roll of honor seem more about displaying epeen than anything useful.

But then I guess we could have a separate discussion thread, anyway I digress.

I think we should have a discussion thread about discussion threads. These things need to be discussed.

Owners threads can be better as you can talk to people that actually have the same hardware.

To be fair and possibly incur some flaming, kaby is simply an iterative upgrade of sky, all the same principles apply. You won't gain any real insight from a kaby lake thread that you can't learn from the relative skylake thread.

Unless you know something interesting, in which case, start a thread about it...no one is stopping you!

There is no mechanism to stop non-owners posting in an owners' thread. Conversely, there will be many owners in a normal product thread.

I agree with others that the "such-and-such owners' threads" give the impression of being primarily concerned with elitist, willy-waving displays.

A general product thread does not give this impression.

That's pathetic.

It doesn't necessarily need to be called an owners thread. It keeps all the information on topic, and especially in the case of this place, you don't have to sit and wade through all the misinformation and other topics.

There's nothing even remotely like that in the CPU subsection.

I call bull on that.

An owners thread is a valuable resource. When researching something it's always better to get the opinions of actual owners. This is easier done in an owners thread, and people who aren't owners, and are just full of bluff and bluster regarding a product generally stay away from actual owners threads.

A Kaby lake owners thread, for example, is less likely to have some AMD fanboy coming in and stating "it's too expensive, what you need is a FX8350" without anything to back up that claim as to why it's the better choice, other than more cores. Whereas an actual owner might be able to tell you how it has performed against their previous set-up, which may well be what your coming from.

Equally, AMD threads aren't usually full of intel fanboys saying you should just spend the extra £1,000,000 for the latest 8c/16t intel because it's 3 seconds quicker at encoding a 1080p movie.

A general thread asking about these products is more open to opinion from those that don't currently, or have never, owned the product in the first place. And have just formed their opinions based on poor quality reviews and the one reddit thread where the guy used superglue instead of TIM.

No one cares about such threads Kaap.

Boomstick is completely correct.

I wouldnt go so far as to say nobody cares about them. Seems awfully strange to give Kaap an MOH based on the effort he puts in to threads that no one cares about....

I think they currently largely pointless. That said, there's always useful information in there but i'd rather see a Kaby thread than say, a 7600 thread and a 7700 thread. I dont believe there's much point in diversifying the threads as they are at the moment but that's my own thoughts.
