So, marriage

For those not married if suggest you getting power of attorney for each other for finance and health.

Saves a lot of hassle and covers your bases, allowing you to make decisions on their behalf if they can't or die.
And I recommend anyone thinking of getting power of attorney, lay clear rules as to what conditions would mean your power attorney should be removed, and have a back up listed, and have some entirely different listed to watch whoever is your power of attorney.

If you don't trust who you give PoA to I would advise not giving them PoA

I would advise that anyone that gets given poa, has way too much control and power and money in particular can change people.

There is reason it's possible to remove someone that has poa, and it's not just because you don't like their new hair cut.

The person with the power should always be watched, and a back up plan made. Surely no one can disagree.

I disagree with 'always', every case is different.

Me and my OH have PoA but then there's nobody else in this world we trust as much as each other. I wouldn't want anyone but her making health decisions for me for example.

But this isn't for everyone,.every case is different.

There really should be a cheap version of marriage just for people like myself who don't want or need the fuss but need the paperwork for legal reasons ;)
Post your banns (e: or give notice in this case, to be pedantic), pay the registrar and take a couple of witnesses. Cheap, cheerful and no fuss. It only costs money if you want it to.

Or, just get married. :rolleyes::D

You can do it for pennies - it’s just a piece of paper which has a disturbing amount of legal power…
Sure, no problem with people doing that. Just not for us.

Fair, but you can get married for literally rather less than £200. PoA would probably cost more and have less benefits.
Think I'm a bit tired, I initially read that as 'you can get murdered for literally rather less than £200'

Some might say that's better... :p
Nah, To be honest we've been talking about it recently. We were talking about a having a bit of a bash for our anniversary. Might as well just get married. It'll also save money on Will's etc too..
You romantic sod, you.

25 years buddy.. :D :D

In fairness we are pretty good. We work together so we are together pretty much 24/7 then to top it off every year we go and spend 6 weeks in a car touring Europe..

We dont know any other couples that get on like we do, Most of our friends that are married aren't as happy spending time with their other halfs as we are.

We are literally 50:50 with everything anyhow, Houses, Businesses etc so only that piece of paper missing...
