So Mass Effect is being released on the PC ...

The textures is a flaw of the Unreal 3 engine because we can't load/preload/cache textures locally on our 360 hard disks, so they have to be streamed off the dvd. The nature of the engine means that it loads textures last. Biochoc and Gears all had the same issues, using the same engine.

Didn't realize Mass Effect used that engine. Going by the performance of other cross platform Unreal Engine games (hitman, splinter cell, bioshock) we could potentially have a game that works relatively well on mid range pc hardware.

I'm not going to get all excited but it does sound promising.

Yes I know that but surely the more powerful hardware in a top end gaming machine will keep those frames up.

I would hazard a guess it would be the same, it was a game made for consoles primarily.

It won't be the same, it will be better this is always the case with console to PC ports.

Unless of course it's done very badly, but judging from Kotor and so on from Bioware it will be fine.

The 360 is closer to PC based type development so ports are "easy" to knock out EA style, but they have to be made to suit looser hardware requirements which is that hard part, and where successful ports are made. GTA has always been better on PC, mainly due to PC being much better quality than the platforms they had available, plus they spent 12 months doing it properly. I doubt a 360 PC version will see much increase or even the light of day.

Not played and don't know anything about the game to be honest.

I don't care much for a graphical increase but the frame rate will be better on PC for sure.

...unless they really do **** up the port, but I doubt that will happen, also I'd expect the graphics to recieve a slight boost due to higher resolution, 1920x1080 Mass Effect oh yeah.

... and doesn't the list of features sound like bits they probably chopped out of the 360 version because the couldn't finish it in time for release?
No. The only changes listed are interface ones to take advantage of mouse/keyboard.

You think most console to PC ports are better on PC? OR are you agreeing with me that they are normally better on Consoles than PC, or that because Bioware are doing it that it will be the same on both (which is what I was trying to imply).

Usually PC turns out better, unless they completely **** it up, but with Bioware I'm confident the PC version will appear with a better frame rate (hardware dependant) and loss of texture pop-up, oh and it will probably be optimized fairly well considering the engine, hopefully.

I think you're getting confused. Most console to PC ports are very rarely better on PC.
I'm struggling to think of one which was better on PC (I'm not saying it hasn't happened once or twice).

I'm pretty sure the majority of ports have given better frame rates, sure they haven't always been perfect but the frame rate increase is always welcome.

Resident Evil 4 was a crap port, but the frame rate increase was there, same with Rainbow Six Vegas, I don't know if you could call BioShock a port or not but that's a good one. (Low res textures...etc I don't think it was built for the PC ground up at all)

It was always coming out on the PC; I'm not sure why some people are acting so surprised.

It's a great game that I've actually gone back to again for a third play through (on insane) and I'm enjoying it as much as the first time.

It's great they're looking at enhancing it for each respective platform and all PC gamers should run out and get this day one.

But fairs fair; what I really want now is the 360 to get Dragon Age!

No up until a few hours before the announcement Bioware even gave an interview saying it was 360 exclusive and there were no plans to release it on PC.

A lot of the time ports are done by another company and often they turn out worse in some respect to the original. Impossible to judge though until the PC release is, er, released.

I am just curious about frame rate issues on the 360 with this game... what resolution are you guys playing in? 1080i, 1080p, 720p, or standard definition?

720p.
The frame-rate issues don't hinder the game at all, more of a minor annoyance. If it was something really fast paced it would be bad, but it's not, I'm a stickler for stuff like that, and whilst this game shouldn't have had it, what it does have has no impact on the game as a whole.

But many PC gamers do love boasting about frame rates, even if it makes the game no better. Lets face it, not once did it hurt the game.

I wonder if the PC version is getting the extra downloadable content? If so, will they get it for free or have to pay for it as well? Lets face it, all the changes they listed can be chalked up to having to rework the controls.

Everyone goes overboard on the frame rate issues. On my first play of the game I didn't even notice the texture pops, let alone the odd bit of stuttering. These issues are just glorified by others who are used to ub3r frame rates.

The frame rate is absolutely awful at times on 360 and it along with the texture problems have seriously hindered my repeat plays of the game. Its simply unacceptable regardless of how great the rest of the game is and it is very noticeable without going looking for it. If it is still there in the 2nd game I wont be buying it for 360.
