So...My first Service A on the Supra

£215 for the A Service which includes oil and filter change, full visual and fluid inspection and complete strip down of brakes and reassembly along with some other things I have forgotten off the top of my head.

Additional Work:
- Also having crank seal and rocker gasket done as they were leaking (common with supra's apparently).

- Cambelt and aux belt being changed (not essential as they were done relatively recently) but they are in the vicinity when doing the above work so decided to get them done anyway.

- Corroded front brake lines being replaced (rears already done previously)

Total for the above additional work any guestimates? (Toyota main dealer btw)
 
ooo not going to be cheap from the main dealer!

In total you won't see much out of £5/600. Not sure how complicated the cambelt is but "normal little cars are £200 and a car like mine (RS4) is about £650 from a specialist....

Crank and rockers should be fairly cheap. As will the brake lines, but it will involve a fluid change and most charge £50 for that.
 
Why are you going to a main dealer?

It's a 15 year old highly complex performance car. None of the monkeys at the main dealer will see much like it day to day so its not as if they know the cars. Toyotas current model range is filled entirely with dreary rubbish thats far away from your Supra.

Surely a specialist will know the car better AND charge you less?
 
Good point fox.

I don't take my audi to the main dealer because of the same reasons. In't there a specialist who does tuned jap cars near you?

Good point - years ago I had a '91 MR2 Turbo, the monkeys at Toyota had pretty much no idea what they were doing. Local indy was about 1/3 of the price and did a cracking job.
 
It has been many years since Toyota made a car that was worth even mentioning - the good stuff is in the past, and therefore the current dealer staff wont know much about them.

Infact what do they even make at the moment? I fall asleep thinking about it.
 
Had a few recommendations of this particular dealer and they have a few members of staff who know the cars well. Since it was the first 'major' service I was having done on the car since I have owned it, I figured it would be a good idea.

Initially I was going to go to a specialist (same as used by the previous owner) but reasoned that a different perspective would be useful for a change. Depending on the quality of the work I will either stick with them for convenience or go back to the specialist.

There isn't really anyone nearby, all a good 50 miles away from what I read.

The iQ, Aygo, Yaris and Prius are quality cars, everyone should have at least one.
 
i had exactly this problem.

There isnt a decent vauxhall specialist near me. nearest is either courtenay sport in north walsham - 4 hours drive away. Or Mid point garage in cheshire - at least an hours drive away.

When my car started playing up, the vectra was in the dealers 3 days before they looked at it. The service desk blokes answer ? the techs were running scared of it because none of them had ever seen one before let alone worked on one before.

They did eventually diagnose the issue in the end, but i certainly wont be going anywhere near the dealer with the car again if i can help it. Certainly, once the warranty runs i wont ever go there.

i didnt bat an eyelid at that name

probably due to the term "boulevard cruiser" already being prevalent to describe a car thats designed to be driven slowly around town with the top down and let people look at you.

This was my thinking to some extent, if the service they offer is good and they aren't playing at rip off merchants, then I'm happy to pay that bit extra for the convenience of not having to travel excessive distances and wasting time.

So far its been a good experience, booked in yesterday, dropped the car off and it was looked at within a couple of hours and I got a call back with findings. Much of what they found was as I expected it to be so I am confident they are being straight so far. We'll see.
 
i hope they are good

just dont see how toyota main dealer techs will get to work on many supras. Maybe if they have a reputation, and get lots of business from the on-line community etc.. however, this dealership might be difference.

Certainly, this tiny little back street garage near me is always full of fast fords and cosworths etc.. As one of the mechanics there owns an escort cosworth, and has an owners club sticker in the window, so i think he sends a lot of business there way using that. Obviously you're going to trust your car with somebody who already owns one !
 
lolz @ supra in a main dealer. you may as well have cracked on with the work yourself. i doubt if any of the people there would recognise it as a toyota, let along what the device under the bonnet making more than 60bhp was.

risky leaving it with them, but in theory theyll be able to get good literature for working on that engine
 
toyota have one of the most dreadful ranges of cars currently, especially given their performance pedigree in the last 10 - 20 years.

the last "hot" things they made were the Gn7 Celica 190 and Corolla T Sport...both are now ceased in production and were only 1.8na compared to previous generations of Turbos, (celi GT4, Supra, Mr2 etc)....
 
what hot toyota was that?

in the above post i almost said they have done a Nissan... but nissan still make a couple of performance orientated cars (350/370, GTR etc)... but what happened to nissan hot hatches? small turbos and saloon tourers?!
 
Well thats the thing. It wasn't a hot Toyota... but it was.

Steel wheels with plastic wheeltrims. A plastic steering wheel. No trip computer. A really basic old looking stereo.

And a 270bhp 3.5 litre V6 :confused: It was a Toyota Aurion ATX. It looked and felt inside and out like a cheap fleet car yet went like an absolute rocket. Seriously it was probably quicker mid range once you'd finished fighting the stupid gearbox than my 530i.
