So My PS3 Stopped Reading Discs, What Should I Do?

Received it back this morning :D Not tested it yet as I'm still at work. They have battered the case around a bit, it's the same unit as the serial numbers match but it's in far worse a state now than it was before I sent it off. Scratches all over it :(

Sorry i can't remember how this thread played out and really cba re-reading it but:

Did you pay for repair? If so i'd demand at least some of the money back.

From what I gather they wanted £99.99, and he "bit the bullet" because he couldn't wangle a freebie.

So yes, he paid :(

if i ever have a problem with my ps3 reading discs i think i will just get a slim instead of paying the £100 for a fix as mine is out of warranty and i did'nt get exstended play

7 working days. I think mine was 5. Not too bad, unlucky about the scratches though.

As i say, i'd ring em and demand some form of compensation. It's not on that you've paid them for a service and they've gone and messed up a product which is designed to be sat in your living room.

With them already taking the money from my account I highly doubt there will be much chance of a refund. I'm even more ****** off about the fact a new 80Gb PS3 Phat can be had for £199.99 now.

It wouldn't hurt to ring and customer satisfaction is very important to companies. Even if you only get a free game out of it it'll be worth the try.

18 months is not a reasonable time for a console to last, go back to where you bought it from and beat them about the face with the Sale of Goods act.

Edit:

Mot people seem willing to accept a 12 month warranty and retailers will try and fob you off saying you're only covered for 12 months, this is bull and they're either ignorant of the law or hoping that Joe Public is.

Read the sale of goods act.

This is from another forum I just found when looking up the sale of goods act...

Boils down to how much you're willing to fight as the retailer will probably want nothing to do with you at first.

As i mentioned in a thread a while ago, it depends on the cost of the goods.

ie: A car is sure as hell intended to surviva past a 12 month guarentee/warentee period, due to its extreme cost.

In most cases a ~£300 purchase cant be argued in a court of law past 12-16 months.

That's what refunds were invented for! :o

Get on the phone.

Indeed, get it done!

Worst comes to the worst and you only get a tiny bit of compensation for it; You can at least then sell your PS3 and it'll make up the difference when you get a brand new unit.

Paid 99 for the repair, sell (even in a bad condition) for slightly more than that, pay rest for brand new unit.

No, that's the problem - people just seem to bend over and accept it - I sure a hell would expect an electrical appliance to last more than a year and I'm sure if you did somehow end up going to court they'd find it in your favour too.

Woohoo - My PS3 is working again. :D

I bought a replacement laser assembly from an online UK console parts retailer for £58 plus VAT, installed it this morning & it's all working again!! (it wasn't playing any Blu-Ray media at all - games or movies).

Quite straightforward to replace really - you just need a bit of care when doing so. Even so, I was a bit nervous when I first put a game disc in!!

Happy days!
