So, this post office palaver then

As a retired solution architect who had involvement in development of accounting solutions waaaaayy back I sympathise with this guy being grilled. He's currently being asked why when giving evidence about system 2 he didn't tell the court that system 1 which was utterly separate to system 2 had had problems with data integrity. Isn't it up to the defense to ask the question about Fujitsu's track record at developing software and its history of defective software for this specific client (i.e. the PO). It's not up to a witness to make statements that are not in answer to a question.

not sure if Jenkins is a genius who is playing the inquiry for fools or being set up as the fall guy, looking at his demeaner, at times he looks like a lost puppy, other times hes coming over as arrogant. cant work the guy out

I seriously doubt he would have deliberately tried to hide software issues for his employer if that meant innocents were jailed. The PO was the one doing the prosecution and if Jenkins is to be believed he told prosecution lawyers that there were problems and those statements were not passed to the court.

And I could easily see how he could be made to the scapegoat

Anybody watch Surviving The Post Office with Will Mellor this evening?
I'm gobsmacked that the Post Offices are still using Horizon, it still makes mistakes but they don't have to worry about the shortfalls now.

Every time this thread gets bumped and/or I see stuff about it on the news it reminds me I interviewed for Fujitsu (Foots Cray) at the start of the 2000s and was offered the job but turned it down - could have been caught up in this mess :s potentially dodged a bullet.

EDIT: Actually twice that happened about then, also interviewed for a reinsurance company in Tower 42, which went on to have a massive scandal, with people going to jail, in the department I interviewed for but didn't get the job.

My dad worked for them fresh out of the army (He was in the royal signals so his skills were of some use) although back then it was called ICL before Fujitsu took them over. He retired in the mid 90's. He was very proud and installed mainframes all over the world for blue chip companies. This was when computers were massive and would have been in the 70's and 80's. More than likely like most companies these days taken over by suits and ruined for profit.

I hope they throw those guilty in jail. My fear as usual these corps will usually walk away free or a wrap over the knuckles if lucky.
Exactly like the Big Pharma companies (Baxter, Bayer, Revlon, etc) who knowingly sold AIDS & Hep-C tainted blood products. Only France & Japan had the balls to jail their key decision-makers, whilst the pharma firms made billions.

You've very rose tinted glasses if you think mainframes were installed for charitable reasons lol

I remember in the 80s my dad taking me in to work to see the mainframe - racks of HDDs the size of shoeboxes, 850MB if I recall correctly which was unheard of at that time, with transparent tops so you could see the platters.

What I meant was the people who held positions of power were time served employees. Not some noob with a business degree who doesn't understand what is happening beneath them. You only have to see the LinkedIn profiles of the current crop of head honchos at the place now to see that. You see it all over businesses now. Boeing being a prime example.

totally, its about time these corps stop getting away with literally everything

Police now actively investigating individuals in their roles for getting innocent people jailed.

This quote says it all:

"I can't understand why it's taken so long, I can't understand why things are having to be gone over and over and over... But you know, never give in, we'll get there."

I can't believe it's still dragging on 15 years later.

We (Tainted Blood community) waited over 40 years just to be acknowledged and not called Conspiracy Nuts.

Civil Service corporate memory loves to play the "Let's Just Ignore Them Until Everyone's Dead" game.
Yeah majority of sub postmasters have had diddly squat in compensation still, most are getting on/elderly now most will likely have expired by the time they ever get around to it
