So what have you found while fixing peoples computers?

I was using my mate's computer back at Uni and got a bit nosey. I then had a look at a load of pics of nights out we had and came across one of his ugly girlfriend wearing a feather boa and nothing else, still makes me shudder, don't think I've ever recoiled from a screen as quickly in my life!

Nice attitude from a man of honour. i would say you are the saddo for making a daft statement like that.

So you can take your "holier than thou" attitude and reserve your place on that little cloud when you die. The rest of us are going to hell and will probably have a better time there than we would sat on the cloud next to you

Ouch! your sophisticated retort has cut me deep :(

I find it somewhat ironic that someone who invades his customer's privacy for his own titillation, feels he is in a position to point the finger at anyone regarding their attitude.

As for thinking that pc repair shops dont rummage though your personal data... simply LOL at that. :p To think otherwise means you must be the most innocent person on the planet.

I am well aware of what goes on in these places - which is why no PC belonging to me will ever go anywhere near one. I'd rather destroy the entire machine than hand it over to people like you.

You are sooo funny.... no really you are. :p

What exactly makes you think that you can point the finger at other people just because they dont agree with YOUR values?

"people like you" way to generalise, you dont even know me!

But dont get all excited we wouldnt want your halo to drop down and choke you now would we? :)

Anyway end of... you are right and i am wrong.. i shall go and kill myself immediately as i cant stand to be on the same planet as such a holy man as yourself.

So because some small shop is paying staff 11k a year our privacy should be invaded... i dont think that excuses it, but again I wouldn't send my pc to this kind of place not because of privacy issues per say but more because i would be more afraid of being ripped off and can do a lot of diagnosis myself anyway.

I still think that its poor form that you don't see a big issue with looking in a folder that you were not required to look at. Sure they could have hid it somewhere but they didn't think some guys in a shop would do it after they were told there hard drive was busto, so they couldn't hide it as such. Even so its not their fault, and even if it was only a few clicks away for you it doens't make it right.I still dont see what a registry clean up has to do with that folder, i think its fair enough that curiousity got the better of you. I just dont agree with that priniciple one little bit.

Well yeah im older and more sensible now so i agree that its wrong to go snuffling around for stuff, but like i say this was years ago and i was younger and hornier back then. And i mentioned the registry because i think some have the impression that ALL i did was hunt for filth. I scanned and had to check the contents of certain folders, some being in the my documents folder. The one titled as i said was there and are you HONESTLY saying you wouldnt have had a quick peek? of no then you are a better man than 99% of us :p

What annoys me is the condecending attitude spouted about by people who would have you believe that they have done no wrong in their life and live like a monk :D

Anyway enough of this more stories!!

That is why Bigstan's a man of honour... just in case you wondered :)

I'm not the one breaking the law :)

I know enough about you to know I wouldn't let you near my PC :)

I don't pretend to be "holy" or anywhere near perfect but I do have principles (one of which is not poking about in other people's personal stuff without invitation).

Please try not to make a mess when you're doing yourself in :)

When I was on work placement at University I once found some 'interesting' files on my Chairman's PC when I went round to fix the machine (he was old and retired). I told my boss but she wasn't bothered.

dood i aint no monk and if someone doesn't agree with your viewpoint it certainly doesn't make it the better option. I've done countless things that would be incorrect in some situations but needed a helping hand or a bit of advice to see that i should change my mind or whatever.

Seems we agree on the same priniciple in all fairness so need to bash on

How do you other pervs (with partners) handle this?

Easy answer; I don't :D Am I the only person in Britain who has a girlfriend who doesn't mind sexy-sexy time? /Borat LOL

My Mrs watches it herself! I don't keep it on the desktop (too many young relatives come to our house lol) but it's not something I have to hide  There's some poor fellas on here judging by some of the comments :p

I've found all sorts on PCs before now, but nothing OTT. If I find it by accident, I might have a quiet chuckle to myself but I'd never embarrass the person involved. It's their life, and if it isn't hurting anyone who am I to comment just 'cos it wasn't my cup of tea? Live and let live I say.

Thank you :)

Againt the law? erm no. When you leave the machine they signed a contract which stated that we were given full access to all data on the machine should we need it. And that all illegal material would be reported etc. Maybe with the newer changes to the law such as the DPA this is different but it sure wasnt at the time.

Come on man, its just a bit of fun. If someone dosnt find sex fun or funny then they must have a very boring sex life.

People who do look at others private stuff are just as much fair gain as the person they're looking at. Its your responsibility to hide it better. If you dont hide it well enough then your letting other's human nature take its course and they are gonna look.

Anyway its not like we're are doing anything to harm these people, if people found my private stash obviously i'd be a little embarressed but i'd also see the funny side.

You just need to loosen up a bit and have a little fun :D

I've highlighted the relevant part of that statement. I fail to see how looking at their personal videos was necessary for you to fix the machine. You violated the contract with the customer and therefore broke the law.

I have a decent sized collection of my own, thank you :) I'm well aware of how much fun sex can be.

Next time I see a car with the keys in the ignition, I'll just help myself - damn fools should know better.

It's not necessary to harm anyone to be doing wrong.

I can assure you I know how to have fun - I'd just rather not find it by poking around in other people's personal files.

I needed access to check for possible spyware folders. No law broken. ( would be the retort to that )

You really need to let this go man, you have your own views and i have mine. You dont seem capable of admitting that.

Theft and looking at pictures are quite different.

Still though are you saying if your in someone's my documents folder with a legitimate reason and saw a folder sexy fun you wouldn't click on it?

Although if you are trying to clean out mal ware etc, porn folder are probably the first place to check as that's where it most likely came from, so you have to rummage, it may not be there, but it probably will be.

you and your workmates needed to watch the video clips just incase there was evidence of a virus there? ;)

You can't find malware by watching videos. Running a scan is the usual method for finding malware, not watching people's videos.

It's quite plain to anyone who can read that we have differing views on the subject. I have no intention of letting it go until I make you see that what you did was wrong.

Theft and looking at pictures are quite different.

Different but equally wrong.

Still though are you saying if your in someone's my documents folder with a legitimate reason and saw a folder sexy fun you wouldn't click on it?

Absolutely. It's none of my business.

As above, watching videos doesn't find malware, running a scan does and doesn't require you to open the files.
