Seem to be some promising MMOs coming out, which can hopefully produce some new competition for the WOW dominance :)

Theres:
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Trek Online
Champions Online
DC Universe Online
Aion
The Agency
etc etc

Personally, i cannot wait for the star wars/trek games, should be great.

Global Agenda looks promising - seems to have morphed from a spy mmo to a kind of sci-fi global war thingie. Certainly looks different at any rate.

Sadly, not a single one of those interests me.

I wish there was one of them that I could truly say I was looking forward to, but unfortunately there just isnt. Just dont appeal to me. Dont suppose there ever will be one for me to look forward to again unless Garriott pops back up and says he is doing UO2. :(

He did actually say he was going to do a mediaval mmo. Mentioned it during an interview on the whole sorry tabula rasa / ncsoft thing, I'll see if I can find the link.

God knows what kind of mmo he's thinking of doing, but it probably won't be just another generic mmo with a slap of paint.

That would be promising, will be interesting to see what kind of thing he has up his sleeve. Really hope he goes back to his roots somewhat, he's not blind after all, he must see and know how UO is revered by so many MMO veterans. I'm not the only MMO vet who says things like "if they made an updated UO, I'd be there in a shot". Just needs someone who is willing to go for the niche rather than the mainstream.

Going off on one here... The MMO market has been stale for a while, but over the next 2-3 years there seems to be some really promising titles coming out, lets just hope they all live up to their hype.

The next expansion for WoW :D

I must admit, the only MMO that's likely to turn my head is Star Wars. I was a hardcore SWG player before CU, so if it's any good, I might well give it a try.

Yeah i agree, it seems like 2 maybe 3 years ago companies may have started to coin onto just how successful WOW was, producing a plethora of in-production MMO titles.
I think that the MMO model is probably the future for a large amount of gaming, as multiplayer and interaction become more and more important in games.

The next MMORPG I play:

Whichever one doesn't use levels and instead forces you to actually use a skill to increase your proficiency in it.

I'm so fed up of playing an MMORPG where you "level up" by smashing the same thing over the head over and over again.
Then, once you level up you can magically increase your proficiency in a totally unrelated skill to what you've been using!

UO2 - Oh how I'd love it so...

And yet the weird thing is that more and more MMO titles are designing their MMOs around the basis of being able to solo. Which almost seems in direct contradiction to the idea of interaction.

Never quite understood it myself. Must admit that generally I see more chat and interaction in mmos where grouping is a "requirement".

So many MMOs now seem to almost be isolationist, where someone only talks to you if you happen to be in the same guild (and even then sometimes not) or on the same quest (and then only for as long as the quest is on, soon as its done the group disintegrates and you never hear from them again).

It's certainly the future. But all the ones planned are regurgitation and will be rubbish. We need some forward thinking true fps games. Be it army/space or other. With proper trading and designing. As well as true multi professions like in SWG before it was killed. But an even bigger list.

I'm still looking forward to huxley if it is ever released and I will play the new star wars one. but I doubt it will be as good as galaxies.

Thats a bug-bear of mine too...along with a dislike of nice indicators (be it colour, level indicator or dot system) on the creatures to show you if you can beat it or not.

Remember the old days of UO?? Where the only way to tell if you could kill something was to actually try? God knows how many people that poison elemental killed as they tried to fight it and thought...whoops...might have bitten off more than I can chew here :D
