So who else has done it before?

Happened to me once some years ago - they'd only let me pop home to get the monies after they took my watch and my tax disc!
It was only a cheapo watch but I was worried that I would get stopped by the plod not having a valid tax disc on display.

I've not had enough money in my account before trying to fill a hire car, called my boss and he did it over the phone - I stopped filling work fuel from my own money after that as it was just not possible without a credit card

I've not had a tax disc on show since about January, I've been pulled over and through an MOT, not had anyone say anything.

REBEL WITHOUT A TAX DISC HOLDER

i did it at asda once, i had to ring my girlfriend and get her to give me my card details and pay over the phone. Also done it in the supermarket with a trolley full of shopping, had to leave that after she had scanned it all :D

ha, did this yesterday worst thing is I started drinking a can of pop and my son was eating a bag of sweets that had already been scanned and I couldn't pay for it, felt so lonely stood there infront of everyone at the checkout with no money :(

They "wrote off" my drink and my sons bag of chocolates :D and saved my shopping so came back 20mins later and paid!

Haven't done what's in the OP but I hate it when I fill up with a certain amount of fuel i.e. £40. I try so carefully to make it land on £40, however, it lands on £40.01. FFFFFUUUUUUUUU.

Sunday's I brim the tank, but by Thursday night when I need to fill the tank back up I put £25 in and if I go over I'll go to £30, then to £35 if I miss again, then so on...

End up brimming my tank again :D

Do you have a OCD?

Did this the other day at Morrison's. Filled my car, card declined. Try again, card declined. Turns out my card was blocked due to suspected fraud.

.....still let me get cash out though! Weird.

That can be explained...

Had that happen, I was filling a van up and I was given £100 of fuel money and I kept filling it... and it kept going until it was getting close to £100 and then I slowed down and it was 1p over, I was bricking it that I didn't have the 1p. Ah to woes of a naive youth :D

Has happened two times for me. One time I forgot my wallet, filled in a little pink form and went home, grabbed the wallet and paid within 15minutes. 2nd time my card was declined at a Tesco garage, despite me using it inside the the main store not 5 minutes ago and there was plenty of money on it. Asked the snotty lady if perhaps the card machine wasn't working, and got told in no uncertain terms that it most definitely was. Left the car and walked over to the ATM, withdrew the money without issue, and returned to pay. While waiting in the queue the man at the front seemed to be having difficulties paying with his card too  I went up to pay and said "So it looks like your card machine isnt working after all?" Set the money on counter and walked out.

I done it with £20 of fuel (changed jeans and forgot wallet), even though the guy knew me and I go there regular he wouldn't let the car leave without payment, even offered to leave my phone with him. Luckily someone I knew came in 2mins later and lent me the £20.

I did this at Shell not long ago. The cashier initially wanted me to leave the car at the garage, but I explained that wasn't going to happen and he did not put up a fight. Just took my name/registration and a promise that I would be back within a couple of hours :p

It's no big deal, and you certainly don't need to inconvenience family members etc to come and pay for you.

Never not been able to pay for fuel, does happen quite often at work though, not allowed to let people pop home anymore either due to the few who haven't come back, though that doesn't stop me if it's somebody I know.

So would stopping under a fiver or at least apologising :p

Don't know if it's just the way I'm wired, but I'll happily let everybody off the odd change (within reason, no mate, 78p isn't going to happen lol...) as you can guarantee at least a couple of people will leave you change during a shift to balance it all out. But people who make no effort or flat out refuse just look like arrogant ***** and will usually get loudly informed that if they lack the ability to control their pump hand then they should perhaps learn that they can underfill. Make the slightest effort to even appear to look for change or just say 'sorry mate, I don't have the odd' and you're golden :)

Only ever done it once, about 6 months ago.

Went to Tesco, put £10 in. Looked for my wallet...FFFUUU.

Told the lady in Tesco, they just said as long as you come back within 15 minutes it's fine. Didn't take any details off me.

Did the attendant nod with disappointment and point toward the sign that reads "Please make sure you have means of payment before filling up"?

:p

I did it once many years back but the house was down the road so I left the car there and walked home to get the plastic...

Extra change gets put into the charity box at my place but I've had some people flat out walk out or refuse to pay the extra couple of pennies.

On the odd occasion some customers think the change other customers have left behind can be dipped into by them freely when it's money that would have gone into the charity box. Most customers are pretty good they cover what they had and put extra money aside for the charity box the next time they're in.

My local Shell have let me go home twice before to get my wallet.

Then again I've been going to the same place since I was 17 and know most of the staff.
