So who is a stereotypical "Geek" ?

Well I'm 6"5 have some sort of a tan from being outside and go drinking a lot. But I cant help bring out the geek jokes or say something geeky. My other half knows Im a geek but she doesnt mind :p

People will label you a geek for the smallest reason these days.

I had a USB stick on me the other day and got called a geek by one of the women in HR.

If someone asked me about a PC they were buying and I told them to get the better model because it has a better CPU, I would get called a geek.

When I wear my glasses instead of my contact lenses people say, I didnt know you were a geek.

That last sentence completely overshadows everything you said before it I'm afraid. You are geek incarnate. ;)

lol :D

Im a hero in my own image

*que fan blowing in face......point finger and draw other hand back in classic NFL football pose......scarf blowing in the wind*

at ease gentlemen

haha yes I know, it's not cool. I have to say though, in my defense, it's rather low down the priority list when it comes to spending time. If you saw me, you'd never think I was a geek.

I spend most of my time outdoors, so am pretty tanned. I do a lot of sport, especially rowing & cycling, so I'm pretty well stacked and defined (if I may say so!), so I'm not a stereotypical geek I guess.

work in it,
skinny
wearing gundam tshirt
no sport
play wow
no lady

iam 100% geek, but it is by choice, i can act non geeky, have many non geek friends.

I dont think i look like a geek......atleast nobody guesses i do computer science from the way i look (thank god). Also have a gf and am sporty amd out going.

But i play computer games, and live with 4 other computer scientist ( that make me look like a god).

I've definately got quite a geeky side, and won't argue if someone calls me a geek, but i think im a very amateur geek if i am one at all :p

yeah i think a lot of us tried to convince ourselves that, unfortunately its just denial.

Not looking good, although in mitigation I was married for 10 years and have a son, and used to be a martial arts instructor in my spare time, so it seems I'm getting more geeky as I get older....

My friend, you must be confused!

This forum is host to men that can only be described as... gods! To the left and right, near and far, one cannot move for "6'3 and muscular" specimens of manliness. For sure, you should not expect to find your kinsmen here.

football / uni is my life, computers are more like just a hobby when there's nothing else to do.

I'm not exactly mega-tanned but I get outside a lot, as for skinny / boney... meh, I play a lot of sport so wouldn't exactly call myself either

I'm not exactly a "pretty boy" that spends hours doing his hair in front of the mirror using a pot of wax every day, but my hair looks ok + I have normal clothes lol

IMO using this isn't much different to any other indoor hobby (like watching TV), just people from the outside can't understand and love to steriotype :P

Not skinny, not bad hair. dont wear geeky tops.
have a big life outside of PCs.

But when it comes to bodybuilding topics you are a pretty big geek. :p

I've got the tall and skinny part down and I'd say that I'm probably a geek but most people don't seem to suspect it so it seems to come as a bit of a shock for them when I explain a computing concept or similar.

Work in IT
Play WoW a lot
Met wife in WoW
Don't do sport
Don't drink much
Stereotypical geek gotee beard

Not looking good is it?

However, I ride a sports bike, drive a luxo-barge, don't watch Manga, and am happiest when covered in oil, laying underneath a car/motorcycle trying to fix something.

So, I'd say I'm 50% geek with some ubergeek tendancies.

I pretty much fulfil the geek sterotype just without the glasses.

The average person spends over 3 and a half hours a day watching TV and that is not considered geeky. With that in mind, I would much prefer to have geeky interests than to be "average".

Computer used to be for games when I was a kid (online UT / top clan represent! :f ) but that was only because I had no interest in what the other kids were doing - don't get me wrong, I still had cider on the park etc, but I didn't enjoy it.

Now, however, not in any sense of the word - once you have done the 'lets build a linux system' it doesn't get much more geeky so you, well, grow up. To those who are geeks, devote their lives to WoW, and say they're happy with it - I think you're happy (and deluded) because you haven't experienced the world yet. When you grow up (sorry, living your life in a game is not grown up at all) and experience the world you will regret wasting you time with the pixels.

As a hobby, geekism is fine. Not as a lifestyle.

I like this !

Ok so sterotypical view of a "geek" might be they where glasses. So does that mean if you dont wear glasses you are outta the equation straight away.

As for me, I'm medium built not skinny not fat. I like playing with PC's and general IT. I work for a company that specialises in IT & Communications including stuff like servers cabling etc.. I like to play computer games. That side i guess is geeky. I dress more like a skaterboi . For work though it has to be shirt trousers shoes (tie sometimes)
I have a gf so i do get out quite a bit. Although i like sitting at home playing on my PC or xbox.

:D

Lol denial. No point going out with mates getting drunk taking drugs all the time, no point playing WoW all the time, I can mix it up. Best of both. So there is no denial. I am proud of my geekyness.

I think your describing more of a nerd

Nerd: an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

Think there's geeks here:
Geek: a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)

people on here seem to have lives... ish lol

Im far from a stereo typical geek or nerd physically, but a fair few of the mental attributes are there...
