So will the 9800gtx be backwards compatible regarding PCI-E 1.1/1.0 ?

you know folks I would just see what the REAL details are on PCIE slots and support when official details are released nearer to launch time and stop speculating.

But we aren't. Asus said thats pci-e 2.0 wont work on 1.0 version but will on 1.1 version.

I'm assuming that NVIDIA 680i boards (Striker Extreme) will be fine as they would have thought about this if it is true (unless they want us to upgrade to 780i SLI's....).

Interesting, I sent an email to ask ASUS what version of PCI-E my nForce4 (A8N-SLI Premium) motherboard uses, they have just replied saying it is 1.1.

I don't know how much I trust their support department, however it looks like nForce4 isn't limited to just 1.0a.

Whats the bet the GFX card manefaturers release a PCIE 1.0 version of the GTX... if there's money to be made it will probably happen.

Slim chance i guess, they want to take advantage of PCI-E2 as far as they can, and backwards compatability is really just for that, compatability, it wouldn't make sense to backport it to an old standard which won't provide enough juice. Besides the badaxe is old and lacking in other points for next years race, which is after all what the 9800GTX will be in the game for, so let it rest :)
